Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne is sharing an opportunity that may be of interest to those with senior experience in audit, finance or governance, or worth passing on within your network.
Both the Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner and Sussex Police Chief Constable are seeking to appoint an Independent Member to their Joint Audit Committee, which provides assurance on governance, risk, and financial management across both organisations. This role would suit someone interested in applying their expertise in a public service context - supporting transparency and accountability within local policing.
The role involves:
Governance and internal control frameworks
Strategic risk management and assurance
Financial reporting and oversight
Internal and external audit effectiveness
Challenging senior officers in relation to the management of governance, risk and financial process.
You will provide independent, constructive challenge and help ensure robust systems of accountability and value for money across both organisations.
The Police & Crime Commissioner and Sussex Police are seeking candidates with senior-level expertise in one or more of the following:
Audit (internal or external)
Accountancy / financial management (qualified accountant preferred)
Risk management / governance
Public sector assurance or regulatory environments.

Commitment: ~15 days per year
Location: Hybrid (Lewes + remote)
Remuneration: £162 per day + expenses
