Let us pray for the conversion of England:
O Jesus, Good Shepherd, look down benignly upon the great and noble English nation. Converted to You through the labours of St Augustine of Canterbury and his companions, it was for many centuries rich in fruits of faith and sanctity. So devoted was this nation to Your holy and Immaculate Mother that it was known throughout Christendom as the "Dowry of Mary." When it was separated from You in cruel fashion, many hundreds of its people willingly shed their blood in testimony of their loyalty to You and Your Church. O Loving Shepherd of souls, recall this great nation once more to the unity of Your Church, and grant peace of soul to all those now separated from Your flock.

Today, we celebrate the patron of Bible scholars, St Jerome! He is best known for his translation of the Bible into Latin (the translation that became known as the Vulgate) and his commentaries on the whole Bible. In addition to his biblical works, he also wrote polemical and historical essays from a theologian's perspective.

Today, we join Catholics around the world in celebrating the feast of Archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael. Archangels are the second lowest rank of angel in the Catholic hierarchy of angels, based on and put forward by Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite in the 5th or 6th century in his book 'De Coelesti Hierarchia'.

Today, we join fellow Catholics in celebrating the feast of St Vincent de Paul. After working for some time in Paris among imprisoned galley slaves, he returned to be the superior of what is now known as the Congregation of the Mission, or the "Vincentians" (in France known as "Lazaristes"), which he co-founded.

Today is the feast day celebration of the martyrs Cosmas and Damian. Cosmas and Damian were third century Arabian-born twin brothers who embraced Christianity and practised medicine and surgery without a fee. This led them to being named anargyroi (from the Greek Ἀνάργυροι, "the silverless" or "unmercenaries"); by this, they attracted many to the Christian faith.
