We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Sir Tom Stoppard.

His remarkable talent is reflected in films such as Empire of the Sun and Enigma, both of which we are proud to say were made at Elstree.

A brilliant writer whose legacy will long endure. Our thoughts are with his friends and family.

Today marks 50 years since Queen released the legendary music video of Bohemian Rhapsody. Filmed on our Stage 5 just ten days earlier, the entire shoot was completed in under five hours!

This short moment in time created a timeless visual masterpiece, revolutionising the music industry by using a video as a promotional tool.

Half a century and over a billion YouTube views later, it remains a bold, cinematic fusion of rock, drama, and theatricality, inspiring fans, and artists around the world. We are so proud to have been part of music history! 🖤

The Andrew Mitchell Building, shown here under development circa 1966, a lasting tribute to one of Elstree’s most influential figures.

Last week, we had the absolute honour of welcoming the family of Andrew Mitchell MBE to the Studios, on what would have been his 100th birthday.

His children, Katrina, Andy and son-in-law Tony laid flowers in the very building named in his honour.

Andrew Mitchell served as Managing Director for over 15 years, overseeing some of Elstree’s most iconic productions, including Star Wars, Indiana Jones and The Shining.

Elstree Film Studios are honoured to join the Prime Minister’s UK trade delegation to India, strengthening creative and commercial ties between two of the world’s most dynamic screen industries.

Rebecca Hawkes, Head of Elstree Studios said: “As Elstree celebrates its centenary there couldn’t be a more appropriate time to visit India, a country with an equally rich and distinguished cinematic heritage. This trip is a tremendous opportunity to build on existing relationships and develop productive new links between two global film and television powerhouses.”

The Dam Busters 🎬

As part of our Centenary celebrations, Elstree Studios had the honour of hosting a special screening of the iconic British war film The Dam Busters, in a truly fitting setting, an authentic aircraft hangar at elstree.aerodrome.

Our sincere thanks to KD Kinotec and WLX Productions Ltd for transforming the hangar into a working cinema for the evening, and to Elstree Aerodrome, including their dedicated staff, ground crew, and Sainlo Events - Catering Service , for their support and hospitality throughout.

We’d also like to thank an_airmans_story Daniel Richards of Squadron X for his extraordinary display of original WWII memorabilia, Tim Everett for his invaluable help, and howardberry for his thoughtful words to open the screening.

It was a memorable evening celebrating both a landmark film and Elstree’s remarkable 100-year legacy in British cinema.

Stay tuned… more screenings are on the way 🍿

As Elstree Studios celebrates 100 years, we’re proud to announce the reopening of our legendary stages 7, 8 & 9!

These stages have been home to some of the most memorable productions in Film & TV history, including Star Wars, The Crown, and Jack Nicholson’s famous axe scene from The Shining! Following extensive renovation, they are once again open and ready to welcome the next generation of world-class storytelling. 🎬

We were pleased to work alongside MBS, IEISIS, Scomac, and Calibre Consulting Engineers, whose contributions were integral to the reopening of these historic stages. We were also delighted to welcome Samantha Perahia from the British Film Commission to mark this occasion.

The ceremony was led by EastEnders star Rudolph Walker, who officially cut the ribbon to reopen the stages!🎉

We look forward to seeing the next chapter of creativity unfold within these historic walls!
