🚨 Local Businesses Push Back Over Business Rates Changes
Independent cafés, pubs and hospitality venues across Southbourne, Christchurch and Wimborne have launched a coordinated protest following proposed business rates increases announced in the recent Budget.
Several operators have begun displaying signs stating that Labour MPs are not welcome on their premises, describing the move as a symbolic response to what they say are mounting financial pressures on small, independent businesses.
Business owners argue that rising costs — including rates, energy and staffing — are making it increasingly difficult for local venues to survive, and claim current relief measures do not go far enough.
The campaign, which has started locally, is now attracting attention beyond Dorset, with similar actions reportedly being considered elsewhere in the UK.
Supporters of the protest say the action is aimed at government policy, not individuals, and is intended to force urgent discussion on the future of the high street and hospitality sector.
