The novel creates a convincing international backdrop for the war but is also filled with those tactical engagements that I loved!! This is why my copy is falling apart! Played a few engagements using the hardcopy rules but its inherent complexity scared off most opponents.

I read Red Storm Rising at least two dozen times. Interestingly, the book is based on Clancy’s participation in a number of gaming sessions involving the Harpoon(1983) board game with designer Larry Bond. In fact Clancy gave Bond a co-writer's credit for the volume.
