Cycling infrastructure in Portugal is REALLY good at the coast, however sometimes you come across something like this. A thick wire stretching from a high post to a low point in a pedestrian / cycling bridge.
Yes, it is visible, but all it takes is a moment of distraction and then your neck is in trouble.
This is at the pedestrian bridge at the "Canal da Barrinha de Mira" about 4 Km before of after Praia de Mira (Mira Beach) depending in which direction you are riding.

This video continues where my previous video about Portugal's coastal boardwalks ended.
The first section was filmed between Areia and Mindelo at the end of February 2026. In my previous video, this was the area where I encountered the damaged boardwalk.
The second section was recorded almost a month later, near the end of March 2026, in Casais de São Lourenço, close to São Lourenço Beach.
If you are planning to cycle the EuroVelo 1 route in Portugal, be prepared for significant flooding on several sections of the route, depending on the time of year. Along Portugal's coast, the driest months are typically July and August, while the wettest period is usually from November to February.
The official EuroVelo 1 route passes through several flood-prone areas, and there is a good chance that you will need to take alternative routes, especially if you are riding an e-bike or prefer to avoid riding through water.
