The 1st picture shows the stats of my EuroVelo 1 journey in Spain.
The 2nd picture compares the stats of Spain vs. Portugal.
I can say that Portugal prepared me for Spain.
The Spanish journey was longer, the total elevation was higher, yet I've done it in 1 less day and in almost every score the stats for Spain are "better" than for Portugal.
If you want to undertake a long bike journey, but are afraid you are not prepared or fit enough for it, don't worry... the journey itself will prepare you. All you need is to be patient with yourself.

This visit to Omaha Beach brought up mixed feelings. I actually took the time to read the entire Wikipedia page about this beach in D-Day and about the landings in general (which I recommend you do also). The soldiers took the beach, but at great cost. As the article puts it, nothing went according to plan and in war that is a fatal mistake. It is estimated that 2.400 (10.000 in all the landings) Americans lost their lives in the 24h after the landings started. The landings brought in 34.000 troops and the Germans had only 6.000 deployed to defend the position, but they had a tactical advantage that is very clear when you come see the site (or watch the movies). On the other hand, orders were given by people who weren't on the front line and that saw the troops under their command as expendable resources. What makes me really sad though is the belief that nothing has changed. A lot of Americans fought and died against Fascism and Na**sm and 8 decades later they elected the Trump state for government... TWICE!
Today's divided world seems to be heading the same way it did in the 30s, but now we have much more powerful and intelligent weapons now. We DO have the technological ability for annihilation and if that is to be our faith, may God help us in the afterlife.

At Omaha Beach.
If you watched Saving Private Ryan with Tom Hanks and Matt Damon, this is the beach of the movie. Hundreds, perhaps thousands were killed here during the D-Day landings, which coincidentally, will be 83 years ago this week (6th June 1944).
Came here to live a bit of history before returning back to the UK tomorrow.
Hope you guys are all good.

No night shots, I'm afraid.

Mount Saint-Michel at high tide.

Walking on the bridge to Mount Saint-Michel and talking about the free shuttle buses that carry the visitors between 3 points on the continent and the island. You can cycle to the island if you wish, but according to the official website this is discouraged as there are only 70 parking spaces for bicycles on the island.

On the bridge section of the walk to Mount Saint-Michel.
So many people here... Crowded.

I found a free parking spot for my 7m campervan at only 2 Km from where the free shuttle bus transfers visitors between the continent to the island, so I decided to give the bike a break and walk.
Wish you all a nice week.

I am parked in a small town called (got the name wrong in the video). That is about 7 Km from the bridge leading to Mount Saint-Michel, one of France's many top tourist destinations. The trail goes along the river and it's beautiful.
I've got a knee infection (presumed) so the plan to ride today was put on hold for tomorrow. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be feeling better and be able to ride all the way there and back as well as to tackle the many steps up and down (hence the name "Mount").
