It’s November so that means it’s another Big Writing Day prompt! Time to hunker down and write a mini essay about something you want to nurture this month (or long term!) as always, there’s no pressure, this is just something to inspire you to get writing!

Introducing ‘Big Writing Day!’
Inspired by primary school days when we’d have a Wednesday dedicated to simply writing. It was an experience I’d never forget and it was the start of my own journey as a reader, writer and publisher. Now I’d love to share that story magic and get you all writing!
The first Wednesday of each month we’ll share a writing prompt for either a short story or an essay, (this month we’re doing both!) and all you need to do is write between 500-1000 words. Once you’re done, you can either keep if for yourself or you can send it to us on [email protected] with the subject ‘Big Writing Day’ we’ll select it our favourites and publish them in a digital zine on our website.
So, feeling inspired? Let’s get writing!

Muslims in the North’; a soundscape of trailblazing Bradfordian stories untold’

It is well documented that incidents of Islamophobia have significantly increased (TELLMAMA, 2024). Despite Bradford and the wider Yorkshire region being home to many Muslim communities, yet little representation of such marginal voices within research dissemination activity or civic spaces has been facilitated. It is also clear that there is a pressing need to address this challenge through research-informed public engagement activity.

‘Muslims in the North; a soundscape of stories untold’ will tell the untold stories of the trailblazing success of Bradfordian Muslims and those from the wider district across a number of sectors, underpinned by Dr Hussain’s (Hussain, 2024) LITE research which explores perceptions and attitudes towards cultural diversity in relation to the workplace 2.0 and wider society. This audio-visual soundscape, builds on an earlier award-winning ‘Muslims in the North’ exhibition at Leeds City Museum; taking a story-telling approach. It is hoped that communities will be inspired by shared stories and further nurture a sense civic pride and aspiration.

We’re so proud and beyond excited to share that “Tales from the Kitchen” has been selected to inspire more people to read through food! This collection is a culmination of memory, love and the hopes to preserve that joyous moment of sharing food with loved ones. We’re so proud of our writers for sharing their essays and stories with us!
