LOCAL NPT POLICE CONTACT POINT WITH LOCAL COUNCILLOR.

As you know our local councillors have been asking the local Police to set up contact point for residents who find it easier to report in person and have a more relaxed conversation.

On Friday it was the first of hopefully many dates for village contact points.
Cullingworth Village hall was the first venue arranged by Sgt Wharton and his team.

Councillor Falak Ahmed attended the Police contact point at Cullingworth Villge Hall alongside Wilsden Parish Council Councillor Tony Caunt.

Falak was able to meet the Bingley NPT team and together they spoke with residents who came to share their views.

The main concern raised was traffic on our local roads, especially during school drop‑off times. These issues have been passed on so the Police team can continue monitoring and supporting improvements to keep our community safe.

Falak is hoping to continue to make visits to a number of primary schools in our area to speak with parents and see the problems first hand.

LOCAL COUNCILLORS CONTINUING TO PUSH FOR CLARITY ON PLANNING.

Councillor Falak Ahmed has been in contact with the Head of Planning Development regarding the Government’s new national delegation scheme, which starts on 31 October. Falak has asked for clear guidance on how this will affect planning decisions in our all the villages.

They’ve confirmed that most applications will move to officer delegation, with only the largest going to Planning Committee. A full report will go to the Regulatory & Appeals Committee on 15 October, after which councillors will be briefed.

Falak specifically raised the Harden Lane application in Wilsden as this is so important to Wilsden residents. The officers have indicated that applications of this type are likely to still go to Committee.

Final confirmation will come after the 15 October meeting.

Falk is continuing to follow this closely and keep residents updated as soon as information becomes available.

Be assured your concerns are being raised, and Councillor Falak Ahmed is making sure they’re heard.

UPDATE ON HARDEN PARK PLAY AREA FOR RESIDENTS.

Firstly a big thank you to Harden Village Council and to the Council Parks & Greenspaces team for their continued hard work at Harden Park Play Area.

Councillor Falak Ahmed received an update this morning with regards recent works in the location.

“Further work to the gully has now been completed, and painting of the play equipment is due to begin within the next two weeks, along with additional weeding, weather permitting”

Falak is really pleased to see steady progress and improvements being made for our children and families.

Thank you again to everyone involved for keeping our community spaces safe, tidy, and welcoming.

Falak will continue to address the condition and maintenance of all our district children’s play areas.

This includes the recent messages received with regards the children’s park area in Cottingley and Cullingworth.

COUNCILLOR UPDATE ON ST IVES PARKING and THE MANSION HOUSE.

Vandalism of the parking machine at St Ives has sadly become a normal routine, and the district council has spent a significant amount on replacing and repairing the machine over time.
At this stage, we do not know whether the income from parking charges even covers these ongoing costs.

Councillor Falak Ahmed has reported that there is a need for a full replacement through casework reference 2026/09/07447, and she has written to the Leader of Bradford Council, Cllr Stephen Place, requesting that parking charges at St Ives be waived due to its heritage importance.

Falak is waiting for his response and will update residents as soon as she hears back.

At the same time, Falak wants to reassure residents that she, Geoff and Paul will continue to support the future of Mansion House. Our councillors understand the process is slow, but the commitment remains strong, and they will keep pushing for progress wherever possible.

UPDATE ON THE GEORGE PUB APPLICATION (26/02528/FUL)

Councillor Falak Ahmed has received a further update from the Planning Panel team regarding The George Pub application.

They have acknowledged her request for the application to be put before the Area Planning Panel for consideration. The application will be reviewed by the Committee Chair by the end of September.

The Planning Panel meeting is scheduled for 21st October, and an extension of time will be requested to allow the committee to make its decision at that meeting. This means the application will not be decided before the Panel meets.

BIG THANK YOU TO PARK RUN VOLUNTEERS.

Councillor Falak Ahmed popped down to support her local park run this morning.
Myrtle Park run is held every Saturday at 9am.
Well done to the 149 runners this morning and a few PB’s were made.
A big massive thank you to all the volunteers who make sure the event runs smoothly.
Fortunately the rain held off for the runners and marshalls.

COUNCILLOR UPDATE ON THE GEORGE PUB PLANNING COMMITTEE REQUEST

Councillor Falak Ahmed has written to the officer to express the community’s concerns and to highlight the importance of The George Pub as a valued local facility.
Falak has asked that this matter be raised with the Chair and that the applications relating to the b**r garden be referred to Planning Committee for consideration.

Given the pub’s social and economic significance to Cullingworth, and the strong support shown by residents, Falak believes it’s important that elected members have the opportunity to look at this case directly. Recent planning guidance suggests that applications involving wider community impact should be considered at Committee, and Falak has made that point clearly.

We will keep residents updated as soon as Falk receives a response.

A GREAT RESULT FOR WILSDEN PARISH COUNCIL.

Councillor Falak Ahmed is very pleased to share that Members have approved the transfer of the Royds House Trust to Wilsden Parish Council.

This is a big win for the village of Wilsden and for everyone who has worked so hard to make this happen.

This decision strengthens local accountability and puts the Trust firmly in the hands of the people who know Wilsden best.

Falak would like to say a massive thank you to to Cllr Peter Allison of Wilsden Parish council who spoke powerfully in the meeting and repeated the case with real clarity.
His support and his help in shaping Falak’s speech made a genuine difference.

Falak feels this is a proud moment for Wilsden.
A community asset, gifted in 1919, now guided by the community it was meant to serve.

COUNCILLORS SIGN UP TO SUPPORT LOCAL FOOD WASTE SCHEME.

Councillor Falak Ahmed and Paul Sullivan visited their local Lidl with local Olio rep Adam Paterson.

Lidl have just joined up and the gave away food for it to be uploaded onto the Olio app for customers to collect free from the representatives.

Falak has signed up as a representative and will uploaded the good quality surplus food items from Lidl Bingley onto the Olio app.

COUNCILLOR PAUL SULLIVAN IS MENTORING TOWN CANDIDATE.

Councillor Paul Sullivan has been approached by Adam Paterson, a young, enthusiastic resident of Bingley who is wanting to be a Bingley Town Councillor.

He is being mentored by local councillor Paul Sullivan of Bingley west Ward as he learns more about public service and community leadership.

Adam is keen to contribute positively to the needs and wishes of Bingley district.
He will gain experience, confidence and insight through hands on guidance from Paul.

His energy and commitment make him a promising future voice for the community.

Look out for Adam in the Crow Nest Ward area as he introduces himself during his campaign.
The local elections are on the 1st October 2026.
