Liberty Nation,

As summer seems to be flying by – some important Post updates for you. The American Legion membership year 2026 kicked off on 1 July. I’ve had few of you contact me about renewing – thank you! Unless you have a multi-year membership, all memberships expire at the end of each calendar year. So – yes, we get an early start every year. We’ll have our membership cards from National this week – we’ll start getting after renewals in earnest then. Goal – get our renewals in as soon as possible to support the Dept and National HQs. Dues remain $40 – you can renew online or by mail. Your renewal supports the Post so pls renew today!

For those members or VA clients in the RAF Alconbury area I’ll be on Alconbury to conduct a claims class and see clients on Tues/22 July. If you’re in the area – swing by the 423 FSS/B671 (by the HS) for the claims class at 10:00 hrs or to meet w me to discuss a claim. To make an appt pls email the Post VSO email at:

[email protected].

The UK-wide Retiree Appreciation Day is Thurs/14 Aug (Evening Ice Breaker) and Fri/15 Aug (main event – base tour - luncheon & info fair) at the RAF Mildenhall Galaxy Club. If you’ve not had an email or snail mail invite – call the RAO at 01638-522039 to RSVP ASAP. The Info Fair will start at roughly 1300 hrs – no RSVP needed for that. Many helping agencies, including your EG02 Legion Post, will be there. Renew your membership in person! *** The Federal Benefits Unit from the Embassy will be in attendance to process change of banking account forms. As an anti-fraud measure, changing your direct deposit can no longer be done by phone or mail – it must be done in person. See the SSA team at RAD and save the train ride to the Embassy in London. ***

The next Post meeting will be Thurs/14 Aug. Details to follow BUT if you’re coming into town for the RAD – a chance to attend a Post meeting.

RAF Lakenheath is hosting at Career Day on Fri/21 Aug at the Eagles Landing Club. There’ll a panel discussion at 0900 hrs then an info fair stating at 10:00 hrs. Your Post officers will be at this event so another opportunity to talk about your VA claim or renew your membership. Stop by and see us!

I appreciate your membership and support! Hope to see you at one of these events.

Some shout-outs and announces for you.

First – tomorrow marks the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe Day ending WW II in the European theater of operations. Pls take a moment to pause and reflect on this special day and of those from the Greatest Generation who secured our freedoms through their sacrifices. Lest we forget.

Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday to all the Moms out there. Hope it’s a great day – if you’re in England warmer and some sun – the few days have been cold!

Liberty Nation,

Next Saturday, 29 March 2025, is National Vietnam War Veterans Day. We’re partnering with the RAF Lakenheath Main Exchange to commemorate this year’s special day. We’ll have a joint London Post 1 and Liberty Post 2 Legion Info table running at Exchange from 10:00 – 14:00 hrs. The Exchange leadership have asked me to partner with them for their main recognition event at 11:00 hrs - pleased to do that! If you’re a Vietnam vet and join the Legion on the 29th – you can do that for $20. That’s half of our normal dues price – a small token of appreciation for your service. As a VA accredited service officer, if you have questions on VA disability claims I’ll be there to answer those questions. The Exchange will have some give-a-ways too so pls stop by to recognize this very special group of Veterans.

Hope to see you there!

Liberty Post Members and Friends,

As some of you know I’m a Dept Service Officer. Education and knowledge are so important when filing a VA disability claim. I was on RAF Mildenhall Wednesday doing a VA claims awareness class to help educate servicemembers on this process – some pictures attached. If you have questions about claims, feel free to message me at the Post VSO email: [email protected] and I’ll see what I can do to answer questions/assist with a claim. If you live in the RAF Croughton/Oxford area, I’ll be down your way in early March. Once I get a firm date, I’ll drop that here.

Reminder #2 – Liberty Post reps will be at the RAF Mildenhall Career Day on Fri, 21 Feb from 10 – 1400 hrs at the Galaxy Club. Questions on claims, or if you’ve not renewed for 2025 OR would like to join pls stop by and see us.

Liberty Nation - Happy Groundhog Day! A more important day tomorrow:

Four Chaplains Day, observed on February 3rd each year, commemorates the heroic actions of four military chaplains during World War II. On February 3, 1943, the troop ship SS Dorchester was torpedoed by a German U-boat in the North Atlantic. As the ship sank, these four chaplains selflessly sacrificed their lives to save others, demonstrating extraordinary courage and unity in the face of adversity.

What is Four Chaplains Day?
Four Chaplains Day is a day to honor the memory and legacy of four brave chaplains: George L. Fox, Alexander D. Goode, John P. Washington, and Clark V. Poling. These men, representing different faiths and backgrounds, came together in an act of unity and selflessness that serves as a symbol of courage and compassion.

History of Four Chaplains Day
The story of the four chaplains is one of courage and unity during a time of crisis. As the SS Dorchester sank, these chaplains distributed life jackets to soldiers and, when the supply ran out, gave up their own life jackets. They linked arms, prayed, and sang hymns as they went down with the ship, ensuring that others had a chance to survive.

Four Chaplains Day was established to honor their memory and the values they represented. In 1988, the U.S. Congress designated February 3rd as “Four Chaplains Day” to commemorate their selfless act and promote unity among all Americans.

We remember...
