Roger Taylor carried the torch for British men’s tennis throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s. He appeared in three Wimbledon singles semi-finals – 1967, 1970 and 1973. The actor David Tomlinson died 25 years ago today. After a brief spell in the Grenadier Guards, he worked as a clerk for Shell-Mex & BP. From an interest in amateur dramatics, he would appear in the film Quiet Wedding before serving as a flight lieutenant in the RAF during World War Two. He would go on to appear in films such as The Wooden Horse, Here Come the Huggetts and The Magic Box but is best known for his work with Disney including Mary Poppins, The Love Bug and Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

The musician David Dundas is 80 today. The second son of the 3rd Marquess of Zetland, Dundas shared a house with Vivian MacKerrell and Bruce Robinson when they were at drama school together. He would go on to write the score for Robinson’s Withnail & I, along with Fourscore – Channel 4’s original signature tune – but he is perhaps best known for the hit single Jeans On, which peaked at No 3 in August 1976.

The actor Richard Greene died 40 years ago today. Although he appeared in many films including The Hound of the Baskervilles (1939), Yellow Canary (1943), Lorna Doone (1951) and The Blood of Fu Manchu (1968), he is best known for playing the lead in the long-running television series The Adventures of Robin Hood.
