LIME KILN CARNIVAL CLUB has sent me the editorial/copy to include with their pictures taken last Sunday 16th Nov 2025 at the conclusion of this year's tour.
When working with them, I was more than impressed with their willingness to help and their gratitude, and I was encouraged to see so many children involved, a real family carnival club. Doubly moved by their effort to pay tribute to members who are no longer with us. (nice touch, Lime Kiln).
Thank you for giving me the privilege of working with you. Can I come back next year? Brian.
"Lime Kiln Carnival Club was formed in 1946 and celebrated its 80th year in 2025. They are known for being the oldest Bridgwater Carnival Club in their original headquarters and with their original name. The club is very proud to have taken part in every county association carnival since 1946. They may have walked a few due to cart problems, but the club has completed every procession route in the last 80 years.
In 2025 their fantastic entry of Dia De Los Mu***os achieved 3rd place at Bridgwater Carnival, winning the Walter Hooper Cup, the club's best result for 45 years, when back in 1980 they portrayed Vikings. The club also came 6th on stage in the Bridgwater Carnival Concerts.
The club is very proud of its choice of theme this year, which has allowed past members and families associated with the club to remember and reflect on their involvement."

Man jailed for s*xual communication with a child

A 54-year-old man has been jailed after officers discovered he has been trying to message children for a s*xual purpose.

Andrew Cobb, from Monmouth Street, Bridgwater, was sentenced today (Friday 14 November) at Taunton Crown Court, sitting at North Somerset Courthouse, to six years and seven months in prison. He was also made subject of an indefinite s*xual harm prevention order.

The sentence comes after Cobb pleaded guilty to 15 offences including making indecent images of a child, engaging in s*xual communications with a child and inciting a child to engage in s*xual activity.

The court was told how in April 2023, Cobb had been messaging someone online who he believed to be a 13-year-old girl.

He was arrested in June 2023 and several of his electronic devices were seized, where officers discovered the true extent of his criminality.

The examination uncovered several persistent, manipulative conversations with at least nine children including requests for images and discussions around s*xual activity.

In several cases, it was found he had initiated the conversation and sought to build trust and maintain secrecy, often framing the interactions as a private relationship or mentorship.

The court was told how Cobb had previously committed similar offences in 2011 and had been ordered to register as a s*x offender for 10 years, stopping in 2021 before his recent offending started.

Officer in the case, DC Benn Murphy, said: “This case exposes the calculated and relentless nature of Cobb’s online child exploitation.

“He deliberately targeted vulnerable children, manipulated them for his own gratification, and showed utter disregard for the harm he caused. His guilty plea reflects the overwhelming evidence built against him.

“We will not hesitate to pursue offenders like Cobb and bring them to justice. Protecting children is one of our absolute priorities, and we will do everything in our power to ensure those who prey on them are identified, stopped and prosecuted.”

Not too keen on this, find myself going to too many funerals lately. Yesterday I said goodbye for the last time to my comrade John Durant, who, like me, was a member of the Bridgwater Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club. At the wake, after I promised the family I would dig out a few photos that I had taken of him and send them on to them. RIP Johnny. We will miss that big smile of yours. Regards, Brian.

MIDDLEZOY REMEMBERS.
Middlezoys’ tangible evidence of remembrance started in 2018 in the form of soldier, sailor and nurse perspex and metal figurines that took pride of place in our beautiful mediaeval church, which overlooks the village from the top of the hill.

Covid interfered at this point.

A few years past, and are one of the ladies, Pam Jameson, made some poppies and sewed them into a net to hang on the front of the pulpit. This was 2023 and it was a commemoration of the few villagers who had died during the Covid crisis.

This was so well-received that the craft group unanimously decided that we needed to dress the church with poppy wreaths. This was a huge undertaking but as always, Middlezoy, rose to the challenge. During a Monday coffee morning, we announced this huge project and the knitters in the village rallied round.

The craft group made Christmas tree ornaments and sold them to raise money to buy the wool and wreath blanks. We lost count of the volume of wool that was knitted into poppies, and at times I carried wool around with me, hoping to encourage more knitters

In 2024 we hung the wreaths on the pew ends and dressed the church with poppies on the screen, on the glass by the belfry, on the font and anywhere we could place them. We had a few purple knitted that were simply placed by the pulpit.

A few of the ladies wondered if our resident artist, Richard Horsham, could help. He drew and made from wood the horse that is seen in the church porch. Once again the village knitters rallied round and knitted the purple poppies seen on the horse. We are delighted that this looks at home in the church.
