A Lifetime Achievement and the Journey Continues

As I close my Wayne’s TCS London Marathon 2026 fundraising page, I can’t help but look back with immense pride and gratitude at what has been the most incredible 12-month journey of my life.

This journey began with the Worthing 10K—my very first fundraising event. It gave me the belief that I could achieve something far bigger. My first real test then came at the Bridgwater Half Marathon, where I discovered just how much determination, resilience and support could carry me forward. From there, every mile led towards one dream… completing the TCS London Marathon 2026.

Over the past 12 months, together we have raised an incredible £3,706.05 for Blind Veterans UK. That is something I will always be proud of.

But this journey has never been just about fundraising.

It has been about raising awareness of Retinitis Pigmentosa and sharing the reality of living with sight loss. Through hundreds of hours of training, countless early mornings, difficult runs, and by opening up about my personal journey across social media, commercial media, newspaper articles and BBC radio interviews, I hoped to show others that sight loss doesn’t have to define what is possible.

As a registered blind veteran, every mile has had a purpose. Every donation, every message, every share, every person who ran beside me, guided me or simply believed in me became part of this journey. You helped me achieve something I once thought impossible.

To every single person who supported me—thank you. Whether you donated, encouraged me from the sidelines, followed my story or helped raise awareness, you have all played a part in making a real difference for Blind Veterans UK and for people living with sight loss.

Although this fundraising page is now closing, this is not the end.

On 6 September 2026, I’ll be returning to the Bridgwater Half Marathon—the race that truly tested me and helped shape the runner I’ve become. This time I’ll be running for Cancer Research UK, a cause incredibly close to my heart. It feels like the perfect way to begin the next chapter by returning to where my marathon journey really took shape.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in me, supporting me and being part of a journey I’ll never forget.

Blind Runner Wayne Takes on the Bridgwater Half Marathon 6th September 2026

On 6th September 2026, I will once again stand on a start line facing a challenge that many people thought would be impossible.

My name is Wayne Pope. I am a blind runner living with Rare Sight-Loss Disease Retinitis Pigmentosa, a progressive sight-loss condition that has taken much of my vision and changed my life forever.

There was a time when losing my sight could have defined my future.

Instead, I chose to fight back.

Running became more than exercise. It became freedom, independence, determination and proof that disability does not have to stop you from achieving extraordinary things.

In September 2025, I achieved something I never thought possible: completing my first-ever half marathon at the Bridgwater Half Marathon while raising funds for Cancer Research UK. Every mile was driven by the knowledge that the money raised would help support life-saving research and give hope to people affected by cancer. One Year later, I am returning to Bridgwater Half once again, inspired by that experience and determined to raise even more funds to help Cancer Research UK continue its incredible work.

Since then, my journey has continued.

In April 2026, I completed the London Marathon, one of the world’s greatest endurance events, crossing the finish line on The Mall after 26.2 miles of determination, resilience and teamwork. It was a moment that showed what can be achieved when barriers are challenged and limits are refused.

Now I am returning to where part of this journey began.

The Bridgwater Half Marathon 2026 is more than just another race.

It is a chance to continue raising money for a cause that touches almost every family in the country.

Every year, cancer changes lives. It affects parents, children, grandparents, friends, colleagues and loved ones. Research has transformed survival rates, but there is still so much more work to do.

By supporting this challenge, you are helping Cancer Research UK continue its life-saving work:

* Bringing hope to families facing cancer

On race day I will tackle 13.1 miles as a visually impaired runner, navigating the course through preparation, determination and the support of those around me.
