Bridport Youth U10s, Proudly sponsored by New Noise - Websites Dorset travelled to Sturminster Marshall today, to take on a team who they have never played before.
The conditions were good but with an early kick off, both teams struggled to find early rhythm.
Reggie was alert in goal early on to thwart a couple chances and Theo was getting the better of the battle with the home striker but largely it was a scrappy match up until the break.
Bridport made a couple changes at half time, and the coaches asked for more shots on goal and they really delivered in the 2nd half.
Reuben was full of direct running on the left, always providing an outlet and Francis moved into the defence alongside Theo, bringing his usual energy but also staying really switched on when Sturminster attacked.
This all meant that Warren was deployed on the right wing and after being told before the game that he was yet to score this season, he duly went and bagged a brace, earning him moment of the match!
Dylan and Jack gave absolutely everything for the team today, chasing lost causes and playing nice football when they got the chance and then as the game moved into the final quarter, the dynamic duo of Hugo and Joe finally got in on the act, Hugo pulling the strings in midfield feeding Joe for his 2 very well taken goals to go with his relentless workrate and Hugo also bagging one for himself in the last minute to earn himself player of the match.
Bridport's passing game was impressive today, but also their relentless energy to keep running right to the final whistle.
For the mums who made it to watch, a super performance from the boys and for the ones who managed to have a lie in, a very happy mother's day!!!
Quick mention for the young home Referee, who was absolutely brilliant, letting the game flow but stepping in where needed, thanks for doing a great job!
