Lyn, 74, makes 3 aces in a month!
Lyn Parry, 74, has achieved a remarkable golfing feat, enjoying no fewer than THREE holes-in-one in a month â at the estimated odds of 1.95 trillion to one!
Lyn, who began golfing at the age of 58, made her first hole-in-one approximately 10 years ago, and had another just a few years later, both at her home club Downes Crediton â on the 13th and summer 11th holes.
But 2025 has proved her most memorable golfing year to date, after an astonishing 31 days in Devon.
She explained: âThe first one was on the day of our club AGM, the 3rd hole at Downes Crediton. It was a sunny afternoon and the greens had just been sanded, so I didnât see it go in. I knew it was close and when I couldnât see it, I was thinking âdonât tell me itâs gone off the back!â. But no, it was in the hole!
âBecause it was the AGM, I was very popular as it meant everyone coming in was getting a free drink!â
Just 16 days later (Thursday 16 October), she was at it againâŚ
âThis time it was our Ladies Day, and we did see the ball go in, on the 13th,â
âWe all looked at each other saying, âHas that really just gone in the hole?!â There was a little bit of jumping up and down and a photograph after that one, and so it was drinks all round again!â
Some people go a whole lifetime of golf without enjoying an ace, and on Thursday 30 October, Lyn remarkably celebrated her FIFTH ace â and THIRD in a month. But this latest one came away from Downes CreditonâŚ
She admitted: âIt was a social round with three friends at Tiverton Golf Club and on their 12th hole, I hit one and thought âthat felt nice!â. I saw it land just at the bottom of the little bank on the right, and thought it might be close. But I told myself it doesnât happen in threes, thatâs just silly. Then there it was, in the hole!
âSadly after the round it was dark and nobody wanted to stay around and the girls asked if we could save the celebrations for another day, so we didnât go in â which is a bit naughty isnât it?!â
It isnât just the aces that Lyn has to shout about this year. Her Handicap IndexÂŽ was 19.4 in May, but the summer of 2025 has exceeded expectations.
She added: âThe gratifying thing is that my handicap has come down by nearly seven shots â and Iâm old! It shows that you can never be too old! It will probably go up again soon because itâs hard, but itâs been a great year!â
Asked about her goals in the game, Lyn said: âLetâs face it, Iâm probably not going to get any better. The holes-in-one have just come along a bit like buses, but itâs just for me about having fun. We have a good club, a good atmosphere, everyoneâs very friendly and I just want to enjoy my golf at Crediton for as long as I can.
âYouâre never too old. The beauty of golf is that itâs for all ages â I played with a 15-year-old boy on Saturday in a competition, he played really well and had a great temperament â itâs great the people you get to meet and play alongside. My only regret is that I didnât play when I was younger, as I might have been even better!â
Before she heads off for a girlsâ golf trip to Trevose, Cornwall, Lyn added: âGolfâs always appealed to me. My late husband used to play and was a good golfer and I used to get fed up of listening to golf talk all the time!
âSo, I thought Iâve got to get into this and see what itâs like. Itâs a great social game and you learn a lot of self-discipline really, as itâs you against the course, and the course usually wins!
âIâve made plenty of friendships through golf and I think my message to women and girls is that itâs not just for the lads. Girls can achieve just as much, so give it a go!â
