Why does Seaford celebrate Bonfire Night in October?

Most of us know Bonfire Night as 5th November, but in Sussex, it’s a little different!

Thanks to a long-standing bonfire tradition, towns across the county spread out their celebrations from September to November to keep the flames burning all season long.

🎆 Seaford’s big night is Saturday 18th October, and this year is extra special - it’s the 15th anniversary since Seaford Bonfire Society reformed in 2010!

Expect an unforgettable evening:

✨ A torchlit procession from the White Lion Hotel
🎺 Drumming bands and costumed bonfire societies
🎇 A wreath-laying at the War Memorial
🔥 A huge bonfire and firework display at Martello Fields

This much-loved, family-friendly event brings the whole town together and is completely free to attend, but it wouldn’t happen without the amazing volunteers who fundraise all year round.

🙌 Please support them if you can, by looking out for donation buckets on the night, or by donating online at: www.seafordbonfire.co.uk. You can also grab an official programme in town for all the event info and bonfire history!

🌳 See page 4 of our October issue for some tips on reducing the environmental impact of firework nights from Plastic Free Seaford!

Let’s light up Seaford this October - see you there!

The 10th of September is home to , and this month, we're highlighting the exceptional work of the Seaford Youth Counselling Project.

This incredible initiative has placed an independent Youth Therapist in every school in Seaford.

They provide 10 free sessions to any child identified by the school as needing support, and have provided over 10,000 sessions in the last academic year alone.
