What people say about us:

“I think you do a fantastic job, the world is a culturally richer and more amazing place because DAO exists”

“DAO provides underrepresented people with a platform to express themselves.”

“I think you provide a very valuable resource and it is wonderful to see that it is such a thriving community.”

“A remarkable resource. It is now the only journal of record for the di

sability arts movement, and as such, a highly important resource for those of us who wish to follow new developments in this area.”

“[DAO is] a link to the disability arts world which I think is vital in terms of forming a positive identity as a disabled person. It's important to me because I am housebound so cannot access things in the traditional manner.”

🎉We’re proud to announce that The National Lottery Heritage Fund has awarded us funding for a major project to save the stories of the Disability Arts movement from being lost. Introducing ‘Cripping Culture: A Journey into Disability Arts Heritage’.

(Cripping, like q***ring, uses a reclaimed word to apply a disability lens to culture.)

The project will research the achievements of the disabled artists and activists who put disability rights on the map, from the late 1970s onwards. We’ll be sharing the stories through a digital archive, interactive timeline and podcast series.

Our founder Colin Hambrook will move into a new role as Heritage Project Director of Cripping Culture, after serving more than 20 years as Editor of DAO.

📢Cripping Culture will have national call outs for testimonials about the Disability Arts movement. We’ll be announcing more details in the coming months. If you have a connection to the movement and want to share your story, you can register your interest via a form on our website - https://disabilityarts.online/cripping-culture
