Introducing the newly bionic me!

The past couple of weeks have been a pretty rough as, a few days after breaking my arm, I had to go back to hospital for surgery to pin the bones back together. Since then I’ve been pretty poorly from both the meds and the pain. All my usual Christmas preparations - including my regular dash to for beer and Christmas puddings - have fallen by the wayside, and I’ve had to rely on the ever-wonderful to help me with even the most basic of tasks.

However, Christmas Eve is here, I’m in a festive shirt, and we’ve even found a forgotten Harvey’s Christmas pudding from last year in the back of the cupboard (honest to god, these are the best puddings EVER!). I’ve already had a chocolate and, who knows, I may go wild and have a small sherry later…

Yes, it’s broken.
Yes, it’s my right arm.
Yes, I’m right handed.

On Monday night, I broke both bones in my right arm in an awkward fall whilst playing walking football. I spent the whole night being patched up in A&E (thank you NHS 🙏). There’s a chance I may need an operation in the next few days just to make sure it all heals properly. Either way, there’ll be no wrapping presents or cooking roast dinners for me this year (so it’s not all bad…).

In the mid-1960s, my Mum used to head over from Manchester to Liverpool to hang out at The Cavern Club & soak up the Merseybeat sound. She hasn’t been back in decades but, last week, my sister & I took her for a visit.

I never knew that John Lennon & Paul McCartney’s childhood homes were owned by & that, if you book onto an organised trip, you can go inside them. I can’t recommend this experience highly enough; it was absolutely fascinating (not least because Paul McCartney had the exact same carpet as I did as a child!).

Of course, Mathew Street & The Cavern (although it’s moved a few doors down the road) were a must visit, & we also popped to see the statue of Billy Fury down by the waterfront.

And I managed to fit in a couple of pints of beer in the splendid surroundings of The Philharmonic Dining Rooms - one of only a few Grade One listed pubs in the country.
