Ebrima Nyang Resigns from GDC Over NPP Alliance

Ebrima Nyang has resigned as Administrative Secretary 1 of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), effective immediately.

In his resignation statement dated September 20, 2026, Nyang said his decision was driven by concerns that the party’s alliance with the NPP could undermine the principle of presidential term limits and potentially enable prolonged rule.

He also cited concerns over The Gambia’s current economic and governance challenges, including corruption, inflation, rising prices, institutional failures, and security concerns.

Nyang said the decision was difficult but reflected his commitment to placing the national interest above personal considerations. He thanked the GDC for the opportunity to serve and wished the party continued success.

Police Seek Public’s Help to Find Missing 11-Year-Old Boy

The Gambia Police Force is appealing to the public for assistance in locating 11-year-old Yunusa Faal, son of Abdou Faal and Fatou Jabang.

Yunusa left his home in Bakary Sambouya at about 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, and has not returned.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact the Police on 9968885, 833075850, or 877692977.

Police are appealing to the public to assist in safely reuniting Yunusa with his family.

Binta Dibba Alleges Life Threats, Says Baba Barrow Threatened Her

Gambian American Binta Dibba has alleged that President Adama Barrow’s son, Baba Barrow, threatened her life during a reported meeting at State House on Wednesday.

Dibba said two separate sources contacted her about the alleged incident, while another source reportedly contacted her father to inform him about Baba Barrow’s alleged statement.

“Two separate sources contacted me, and the other one contacted my father to inform us about Baba’s statement, allegedly about taking my life,” Dibba said.

According to Dibba, sources who were reportedly present at the meeting told her that Baba Barrow allegedly said he would send people to the United States to harm her.

She said her father subsequently advised her to take security precautions, including having weapons and installing cameras.

Dibba further claimed that she contacted the FBI and was advised to contact local police, be cautious about who approaches her home and call the police whenever someone knocks on her door.

The activist also linked the alleged threat to comments she had previously made about the powers of the Gambian presidency and citizens’ freedom to criticise public officials.

Dibba claimed that the FBI had opened a case and started an investigation into the matter. She also alleged that Baba Barrow could face questioning by U.S. authorities if he attempts to enter the United States.

“I’m not afraid. You just exposed yourself. According to the FBI, they said they created a case for me and started an investigation,” Dibba said.

The allegations have not been independently verified by SS MEDIA TV. No response from Baba Barrow or State House was included in the information provided to us.

Security officers stopped 138 people who were planning to take the dangerous backway journey by sea.

The operation took place today, Friday, 18 September 2026, at Madiana Village in the West Coast Region. Immigration officers from Tanji and the Police Carried out the Operation.

Among the 138 people are 126 men and 12 women. They are from The Gambia, Senegal, Mali and Guinea. Immigration officers are investigating them to find out who brought them to The Gambia.

This action saved more than 100 lives. If they had gone to sea, many could have died. Their families would also have suffered. Immigration is calling on all communities to be watchful. It is asking parents to talk to their children not to risk their lives on the backway.

It also told people to use safe and legal ways to travel. The Immigration Department thanked the Police, the Navy and other security officers for working together to protect The Gambia.

Assembly Adjourns Over Quorum Shortage: Where Are the MPs?

The National Assembly has adjourned its sitting today because there were not enough MPs present to establish a quorum. This is more than just an absence; it raises serious questions about accountability and respect for the responsibilities entrusted to elected representatives.

MPs are elected to represent the people and attend parliamentary sittings to debate and make decisions on issues affecting the country. Gambians deserve to know which MPs were absent, why they were absent, and whether there will be any consequences for failing to attend.

The National Assembly should publicly explain today’s lack of quorum, and MPs who repeatedly fail to attend sittings should be held accountable. Public office comes with responsibility. Attendance should not be optional.

Gambian Reaffirms Commitment to UN Security Council Resolution 1540

The Gambia remains fully committed to fulfilling its obligations under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540 (2004) and preventing proliferation, the Honourable Minister of Defence, Baboucarr Ousmaila Joof, said.

He stated that The Gambia attaches great importance to Resolution 1540, which was adopted in 2004 to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery to non-state actors.

According to the minister, The Gambia has received technical assistance and capacity-building support from international partners to address identified legal, institutional, and technical gaps.

He disclosed that in 2026, the Government formally requested assistance from the 1540 Committee, complemented by the national workshop. The workshop reviewed existing national measures, identified priority gaps, and discussed ways to strengthen inter-agency coordination.

Minister Joof emphasised that the support is not limited to preparing the national report but also aims to strengthen the country's legal, regulatory, and border controls, as well as institutional mechanisms to prevent proliferation and its financing.

While The Gambia’s first national report has not yet been submitted, its preparation is ongoing, he noted. The government is committed to completing and submitting the report through a nationally owned, whole-of-government process.
