A real pleasure to hear such warm words from Chris Chibnall (Exec Producer & Writer), Chris Sweeney (Exec Producer, Director), Suzanne Mackie (Exec Producer) and Jo Crow (Series Producer) about their experience of producing Agatha Christie's Seven Dials in the West of England last night, at the Royal Television Society Bristol preview at Watershed 🍿

Given Chris's strong connections to the South West - his award-winning hit Broadchurch (2013-17) was of course shot and set here - it was fascinating to hear from him and the panel about the creative task of adapting Christie for a Netflix audience, as well as development and production decisions including sourcing the right cast, working with local crew (75% of whom were from the region) and finding the best locations across Bristol, Bath and Somerset.

Our team from The Bottle Yard Studios, Bristol Film Office and were out in force to show support for the series launch - after being entirely hooked by Ep 1, we'll all binging Eps 2 & 3 today!

Stop all the clocks! Agatha Christie's Seven Dials is now available on Netflix ⏰

This fast-paced, glamorous 1920's thriller starring Mia McKenna-Bruce, Helen Bonham Carter and Martin Freeman filmed at The Bottle Yard Studios and on location in Bristol & the West Country with Film Office support in Summer 2024 🎬

Under the oversight of Oscar-winning Production Designer Martin Childs (Shakespeare in Love, The Crown), bespoke sets were built in the Studio for key interiors including the ‘Seven Dials’ club, whilst out on location, Bristol Film Office supported filming at a locations including Arnos Vale Cemetery, Queen Square, All Saints Lane, St Nicholas Market and Bridewell Street.

Further afield the show also filmed in Bath at Abbey Green and Great Pulteney Street (Bath Film Office), in Somerset at West Somerset Railway's Blue Anchor Station and Minehead (assisted by ) and at Badminton Estate (South Gloucestershire) and Westonbirt Arboretum - Forestry England (Gloucestershire).

Better still, Seven Dials was fully engaged with our BFI-funded scheme, providing paid work experience for 3 trainees across Art, Script Supervisor and Sustainability departments. A larger trainee cohort visited the set on location and met with Producer Joanna Crow and crew.

Our thanks to Seven Dials Producer Joanna Crow for sharing her experience of filming at the Studios and across our brilliant filming region: “Having worked at The Bottle Yard on various productions over the past 15 years, I’m a huge fan of the services and spaces they offer, which suit the full range of productions from lower budget children’s TV to high end Band 3 drama, in my own experience. For Seven Dials, the studio operation was very flexible to suit our needs in terms of space, including much breakout space to suit varying demands, and the team were always a pleasure to deal with.

“Bristol, Bath and the wider region offer a rich and varied palette of landscapes and locations which Seven Dials is a great showcase for. We were ably supported by the local Film Offices and found 1925 London with no need to time-travel or to leave the South West. The Bottle Yard Studios and the West of England region is now a progressive and prestigious filming hub offering a very attractive package all round.”
