Why do all my novels have television in them?

I love the world of television- after (ahem) 30 years I still find it fascinating, exciting, it’s introduced me to some of my favourite people in the world ( including my husband) and I think there is a magic to it I will never be able to put into words.

However I try a little in my novels - and if you enjoy this side of them then I am so pleased.

Have you ever wondered why routines are so important? And how do your favourite authors actually create their magic?

It was this fascination which led to the brilliant to create podcast.

It’s since had more than one and a half million downloads, won many awards and he’s interviewed all different brilliant authors like and .

But if you are pondering a Next Chapter and doubt if the world needs you - this is such an example that someone out there does. I discovered Dan’s podcast a few years ago and although we hadn’t met until this interview- he has guided me through so much of learning about writing , the importance of routines, the industry and how all authors face setbacks. I am not exaggerating when I say I am not sure I would have carried on without these stories.

Dan is brilliant, funny and gives great advice about how you can create your world too. He believes we all have to ignore those pesky inner voices and hurdles of perfection - because your magic is needed - and someone just like me is out there waiting for you.

15 years of writing/ rejections and there have been so many moments / days/ who am I kidding - years - when I found it so hard to believe my books would ever make it into grown-up bookshops with actual grown-up real life authors.

But if we can just push away those thoughts - and let the ‘mights’ and the ‘maybes’ take over - well this I truly believe is where the magic lies.

I am not sure I will ever feel like a grown-up author but I love that one day maybe I might.

Holy macaroni!

So today - nearly 5 years after I put it out in the world my first novel The Pink Coffee Shop has made it to the top 1,000 in the whole of the Kindle Store. It’s hanging out next to and is having a wonderful time.

It had 3 million rejections ( maybe not quite 3 million but it felt like it)… two cover changes and spent a long time feeling a little sorry for itself as it hung out on its own.

But all thanks to my gorgeous supportive family, friends, Next Chapter Lovelies on my mailing list and now the power of the incredible and just brilliant it’s having it’s very own Next Chapter.

Together my books and I are learning that while there are no guarantees when it comes to Next Chapters, the possibilities are endless and that, for us is the magic.

All my novels and podcasts are created in the hope they will help you find your magic too.
