We've been working on something very exciting over the past couple of months, and we're so excited to share it. In the meantime, here's a breakdown of some of the results from the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative's 2022 'Inclusion in the Recording Studio?' The researchers at AII are doing such important work, not just for the music industry. A lot of these figures are more than disappointing and, once again, highlight some of the deep-rooted issues that the music industry still has. There were gains for female artists this year, and that's fantastic, but it does not cancel out that female producers should not be 34.1 to 1 in 2023. Underrepresented female producers should not be 135.5 to 1. The music industry still has a lot of work to do.
AII set out three solutions for change:
✨️Use each song as an opportunity to onboard women.
✨️Support pipeline programs.
✨️Remove barriers to career progress.
We started Scorpio with the intention of using every song to onboard women and gender non conforming people, and this will always be the centre of our work. Additionally, we're going to start sharing our favourite songs and projects that support women in music. AII wrote that industry change must be a community effort, and we want to make a bigger effort to grow and uplift our little community. Women in music are talented and important and needed, and we will always stand with them.
