It’s a collective effort imagined by songwriters and musicians as a space to cultivate our own sound and release it independently. We’re honoured to be releasing the emerging projects dreamed into being by friends from our community, with a focus on alt-folk, poetry, ambient and contemporary classical forms – as well as beautiful sounds that don’t have a name yet. This space has been a creative cocoon for us to develop our craft, and we want to share it with you. cuculirecords.com /

Sometimes the best rehearsals are the silliest ones, with musicians who are like family, who you can laugh and cry with. And make silly videos. And also hopefully make beautiful music that will make audiences feel some things too.

Come see us at this Thursday to hear us try to do that, along with our friends , all thanks to

Following the release of her debut single 'Soul On Fire' in June, MacGregor's new release encapsulates a much more sultry mood. 'Mangos and Avocados' is a swaying, sensuous song that plunges us into an idyllic coastal night. MacGregor explains that it's “written about a time I spent living in Costa Rica, a period of my life that felt like I was living in high-definition; my senses dripping in sounds, smells and colours." The vivid lyrics were co-written with Lucinda John-Duarte: ‘I like your flesh when it sweats / and the salt in your eyebrows… Birdsong / what time do you call this / we've been up for hours / the sun's already set'.

MacGregor's characteristically confident vocals soar with nonchalant ease over hazy backing vocals and persuasive bossa nova-inspired percussion and bassline from producer Richard Lobb. The track is completed by a host of Bristol's top instrumental talent - Polly Meyrick's clarinet solo twines expertly between Louis Alberry's electric guitar and Katie Moberly's cello lines, conjuring an irresistible sense of unhurried hours in a faraway place.

One week to go! We’re really pleased to welcome JOW back to The Greenbank for a double bill with Troyka on Thurs 17 Sept.

JOW is an acoustic instrumental duo with a distinctive blend of jazz, folk and classical chamber music, composed & performed by Bristol-based artists Pete Judge (trumpet) and James Gow (cello). Within the confines of this unusual pairing, these masterful musicians create miniature worlds of whimsy, pathos and humour that are entirely captivating.

“somehow doing so much with so little” (Jazz Stroud)

“stately trumpet lines of lament & renewal soar gently above earthy cello sounds and together weave an English landscape” (Music at the World Junction)

“there is no ego to this, just musicians playing organic music. They musically lean into each other and then give the other space to find their way. The audience love them” (Bristol 24/7)

Two weeks today! Cuculi Presents: Troyka Mala at The Greenbank, 17 Sept

Troyka Mala is a chamber-folk/post-classical trio featuring Sophie Wilsdon (clarinet & vocals), Naomi Hill (violin & vocals) and Liam O’Connell (double bass & vocals). Having played together for years as part of long-standing Bristol band Troyka, the trio have taken their infectious chemistry connection into a decidedly more intimate, intricate and experimental format aimed at sit-down audiences rather than rowdy dancefloors. Together they indulge their love of intricate three-part chamber style arrangements, showcasing a selection of soulful Balkan, Eastern European and Middle Eastern heart music, alongside an expanding collection of Liam’s (My Octopus Mind, Leeem) original compositions, which take a playful approach to these influences.

We’re delighted to have them as part of a double bill with JOW for a seated listening gig in the intimate space above the Greenbank.

We had such a lovely gig with Balladeste and Betty Blight in The Greenbank Pub last month - it was a whole evening of exceptional musicianship, with both artists finding inventive ways to bridge the gap between traditional music, improvisation and new compositions. Thanks to both artists for such a mesmerising show!

We’re back at The Greenbank in exactly one month with more wonderfully unpredictable music in a similar vein - join us on 17 Sept for a double bill with beloved local artists JOW and Troyka Mala.

On Thurs 17 Sept, Cuculi presents Troyka Mala & JOW in a double bill of locally grown musical excellence upstairs at The Greenbank Pub ✨

Troyka Mala is a chamber-folk/post-classical trio with Sophie Wilsdon (clarinet & vocals), Naomi Hill (violin & vocals) and Liam O’Connell (double bass & vocals), initially born as an offshoot of Balkan band Troyka but now firmly established as a distinctive experimental voice on their own terms in the Bristol music scene.

JOW is the highly original duo of Pete Judge (trumpet) & James Gow (cello), whose playful compositions find the two expert players swapping roles as their intertwining melodies create a constant element of surprise.
