Production Nightmares

Over the last few months we have seen jumps in AI technology like never before. Text came first, then photos and other image creation, speech is pretty much there. Video/film has just recently been ruined too with AI being able to generate images, people and voices and sound at such a quality that is causes people to question what they know.

I’ve been following whats going on with the ‘Velvet Sundown’ drama and the Spotify jazz, lofi AI disgrace taking income from real artiAZ Acousticts…

I’ve seen Suno generate crappy generic pop songs from prompts and everything else…

This morning though I’ve experienced something that has both amazed me and made my heart break simultaneously.
The question of what is a musical composition and/or production has been made pretty much impossible to answer.

I know I shared that I will be stopping production work soon in an earlier post, but this has completely changed it all.

The idea of an artist songwriting and recording, producing and mixing their work is over for now I think.

Definitely done with this now and wish whoever still wants to remain in the game the best of luck.

Sticking to LIVE music with now until live music gets wiped by AI - which will probably happen soon.

I wonder when there will be an AI sports match with two AI teams on the big screen? Or a set of AI controlled F1 cars racing around track. Has this already happened? I don’t follow sports much so I wouldn’t know.

::: Big Update :::

After a few years of being extremely busy, it is time to change things up for the benefit of my family and me.

With all the areas of work that I’m doing taking up the majority of the hours of the day, many weekly gigs going on, and ongoing (hopefully temporary) hearing difficulties… it is becoming harder to commit to delivering the highest expectations on a daily/weekly basis. It is becoming more untenable to deliver with the quick turnaround that I’m known for at the same quality.

I’ve been privileged to have had such amazing artists and work come my way. But for the reasons above, it will be stopping.

This is not the end, and I’m not viewing it as ‘quitting’, but I will not be taking on the high volume of work that I have been doing as AZ Sounds anymore for a little while.

It is time to step back from music production work for a few years or so. The gigs and some live sound work will continue as AZ Acoustic.

Don’t worry! I will STILL be working with current/existing bookings this year, and one *BIG* thing in 2026. But unfortunately I am NO longer taking NEW bookings for recording, production work or mixing, etc. which is very hard for me to do. But it’s happening. Sorry to the bookings over the last few weeks that I’ve had to decline. 😞

AZ Sounds will remain available for quick projects and little bits of help - here and there - but it will be treated primarily as a hobby than a job.

Had to cancel/postpone 3 bookings this week due to illness. My sincere apologies to all. This is something I’ve never done, and will not do again.

Unfortunately, my hearing and sinuses are wrecked and I’m almost deaf, hence why I can’t engage in any sound work 🥹

In other news - better news - I have now just taken my final booking of the year. We’re fully booked for 2025, so any more enquiries and bookings are now for 2026.
