GIG ANNOUCEMENT! We are very excited to announce we’ll be hosting the incredible New Orleans-based punk band TWISTED TEENS next month. Fronted/cooked-up by Cas P. Ian (Blackbird Raum), their 2024 debut has become a staff favourite and is truly one of the most original & exciting releases we’ve heard in a long time, fusing country, blues, rock’n’roll, garage punk… and yes, a little folk punk, to create a blissed out lived-in sound that speaks to musical traditions of the American South whilst being raw and really (really) rocking. To borrow the words of Maximum Rock’n’roll, “hopefully everyone will catch onto what makes TWISTED TEENS important and special.”

Support from Bristol/London rockers Bruno and the Outrageous Methods of Presentation and awesome garage-punk newbies, The Jeff Sessions. Advance tickets available via headfirst, limited to 65.

Picks of the week!

Kay has been loving the new album Late Great by long-time Specialist Subject favourite Laura Stevenson. Her first LP for several years and it’s immediately apparent this will be a landmark in her career. Out on Jeff Rosenstock’s Really Records.

Rory M’s been really enjoying this new album from Swedish hardcore punk band Strul on Adult Crash Records. Fans of Totalitar, Anti-Cimex, etc. should really check this out!

Rory J has been been really digging Hot Snakes’ final full-length album Jericho Sirens from way back in 2018. Though not maybe as highly-esteemed as their first 3 LPs, going back to it after several years it holds up really well and is bringing back some fond memories of early days of the shop here.

Andrew’s delighted to finally have the discography of New York pop punk greats Cheeky on one handy LP! Featuring their classic Choke On A Cheeseburger and What The Heck EPs, as well as tracks from a split 7” with Tenement and from the Art Of The Underground singles series.

🔥 Picks of the week! 🔥

Andrew’s pick is the latest LP Radio DDR from US indie pop band Sharp Pins. This one has been on non-stop in the shop lately and for good reason. Simply one of the most immediately compelling albums of the last few years. Sn**ch one while you can!

Rory J has been loving Kaleidoscope’s new album Cities Of Fear on La Vida Es Un Mus Discos. People unfamiliar with the band may recognise the vocals here from other groups such as Tower 7 and Straw Man Army, and on this record Kaleidoscope have got a sound that sits firmly in the middle of those two. Those who’ve been waiting for a new record from them since 2019’s masterpiece Into The Futures won’t be disappointed, but we’re getting a little more Corrosion Of Conformity-esque metallic chug here.

Rory M is stoked to finally get his hands on a copy of this new album from psych-punks The Lavender Flu. The band has long been a favourite at the shop and this record is chock-full of familiar sounds and a few surprises, ie. ending on an incredible Stevie Nicks cover.
