🧸 Children’s Bereavement Awareness Week 2025
Sharing Stories – Strengthening Hope
Stories shape how children understand the world — especially when life feels confusing or overwhelming.
When we lost our son Chizi, our daughter Omasi (then 4) asked a question no parent is prepared for:
“Where is Chizi?”
We searched everywhere for a child-friendly way to help her understand illness, loss, and the big emotions that come with grief.
There was nothing.
That moment led to the creation of The Bravest Little Bear — a Pixar-style story paired with a 45-page therapeutic guide (developed with input from Child Bereavement UK) to help children aged 3–8:
✨ Understand illness, loss and change
✨ Express big feelings safely
✨ Build resilience and emotional awareness
✨ Find comfort through story and connection
Children make sense of life through stories.
Adults need the right tools to guide them.
The Bravest Little Bear brings both together.
💛 Why This Week Matters
Across the UK right now, thousands of children are trying to understand:
• Why someone they love is ill
• Why someone is no longer here
• Why life suddenly feels different
• Why big feelings show up in small bodies
No child should face that alone.
And no family, school, hospice or support worker should be left without tools.
Storytelling gives children clarity, safety, and hope — exactly what this week’s theme is about.

Since July 2025, The Bravest Little Bear has:
✔ Been featured by BBC News
✔ Been adopted by schools ahead of the 2026 RSHE curriculum
✔ Been signposted in Co-op Funeralcare branches nationwide
✔ Helped inspire £1,002,371 at the Children with Cancer UK Gala
✔ Been used by parents, schools, clinicians and hospices across the UK
✔ Joined the national community via Child Bereavement Network UK
The feedback has been overwhelming — children finally have a story they can connect to, and adults finally have language that helps.
