Teachers from all across Buckinghamshire will be protesting pay in Buckingham on Wednesday (1 February), according to Bucks Herald.

As well as picketing across the country, rallying points have been set up for more pronounced protestations. One of which will be held outside the Buckingham Old Gaol. (Tresha Lionel)

Brainboxes from Buckingham beat boffins from the town’s university again at this year’s Town v Gown quiz in aid of BACAB, Buckingham’s local Citizens Advice charity.

The event raised nearly £1,500 for BACAB, to help fund home visiting - a vital service in this rural area.

The charity has a fundraising target of £15,000, and between now and December 31 any donations will be match-funded by the Aviva Community Fund up to the value of £250.

Buckingham marked Remembrance Sunday this year with a parade and outdoor service at the war memorial in the grounds of St Peter and St Paul’s Church, organised by the Buckingham branch of the Royal British Legion.

In a poignant part of the service, Rector of Buckingham Rev Will Pearson-Gee read out the names of every soldier listed on the war memorial for the gathered crowd to hear.

Reflecting on the secret to a long life, she said: “Love is all you need to be happy.”

The King and Queen Consort have been targeted by a lone protestor who threw eggs at them, yelling that the country was built on the blood of slavery.

The protestor was standing in the crowd at Micklegate Bar, in York, where the royal couple were due to be officially welcomed to the city.

As he was bundled to the ground by around four police officers, onlookers chanted "shame on you" and "God save the King".

Hundreds of people turned out to enjoy Buckingham’s annual Bonfire and Firework display in Bourton Park on Saturday, despite some rainy spells.

The Buckingham Town Council organised event started at 6pm with an LED performance by Cassia Chloe, followed by a firework display by Titanium Fireworks, who have provided the display for the last six years.

Lindsey McCluskie, from Buckingham, is taking part in a 100 Squats or Star Jumps a Day in November Challenge for Brain Tumour Research, in honour of her 10-year-old niece, Elsie Pyner.

Elsie, who lives in Newport Pagnell, was diagnosed with a Grade 4 medulloblastoma in March 2015 at the age of two.

A group of University of Buckingham students enjoyed meeting and learning about horses as part of a session designed to help their wellbeing.

The 11 students visited Bryerley Springs Equestrian Centre, Great Brickhill, which provides lessons and activities for riders of all abilities, plus pony days and school holiday activities, for a session led by Gillian St Ledger Smith who runs activity and team days for groups and corporates.
