😬 The hardest part of growing your business?
ļæ½Letting go.

Delegation sounds simple… but it’s not.

I see it all the time with founders I support — you want to hand things over, but your brain whispers:

ā€œIt’s faster if I do it myself.ā€ļæ½ā€œNo one else will do it right.ā€ļæ½ā€œWhat if it goes wrong?ā€

Here’s the truth šŸ‘‡
ļæ½Delegation is a muscle.
ļæ½You build it by starting small — inbox management, calendar updates, client follow-ups — and learning to trust the process.

Because every time you delegate one task, you buy back more freedom to grow.

✨ This is exactly what I help my clients do as a VA — create calm, not chaos.

šŸ’« Follow for more tips on how to delegate with confidence and reclaim your time.

You've gone from employed to self employed which gives you responsibilities you never had to deal with before. You don't have to know everything from day one but you will have to be a little prepared. When I look for a new client I do a little research on what services they think they might need, this is me being proactive. Once you are up and running with them then they will pass you other tasks.

Don't forget to ask questions, you are not expected to know about their business - so check with them before you do the task. You will make mistakes and misunderstand instructions but this is learning their 'ropes' and you could always set up a SOP.

You will definitely be out of your comfort zone, but think of all the other times you 'done it first time', drive a car, have a baby, own a pet - these are all firsts and starting as a VA is no different.

As a VA what services shouldn't you offer - well basically anything you don't like doing. That is the whole point of working as a self employed VA. You get to choose what you love to do and enjoy and ditch the jobs you hate.

I love a database (I know weird). I find pleasure in making sure all those sections are completed and up to date. So when you need to run that all important report you get all the info you need.

You might love to put together a website or it could be your idea from hell, or formulas on an excel spreadsheet - it's like marmite. I've had years of working in call centres so to ditch this task was at the top of my list, but you might love being that person of contact and offer it as a service.

Love it or hate it - you get to choose. Remember you don't have to offer everything.

A clue - when you 'worked in the workplace' what tasks did you leave at the bottom of the pile?

I’m a Virtual Assistant — or VA for short.

It’s a bit like being a PA or secretary, but I work from home instead of in an office.

I help self employed people and small businesses with things like emails, diary management, organising meetings, and keeping everything running smoothly.

It means my clients can focus on the bigger stuff while I take care of the admin and back office tasks that keeps things ticking over.

Out of curiosity — if you had a VA, what’s the first task you’d love to hand over?

I did exactly what BA advise....I took my holiday seriously.

Yes, I did have plans to post daily on my business pages, check comments and maybe do a little online training. I took personal development books in my case, plus a notebook for ideas.

However, they stayed in the case.

Instead I - relaxed, swam, explored and read. We had the most amazing time and I now feel refreshed (even though a little jet lagged) to start a new week.

Do you take your holiday seriously?

Many people still confuse VAs with ā€œjust admin help.ā€

A VA can handle inbox management, scheduling, client follow-ups, research, social media, CRM systems, and even strategic business support. But here’s what we don’t do: run your business for you, make executive decisions, or replace your leadership. A VA supports, not controls.

Curious what tasks you could delegate today?

Drop a šŸ–ļø in the comments and I’ll share examples!

When you’re a VA, the hardest part isn’t always the work… it’s switching off.

I’m lucky—I’ve got a spare room as my office. At the end of the day I close the door 🚪, and it’s like flicking my brain into ā€œhome mode.ā€

But what if your office is the kitchen table? šŸ“

šŸ’» How do you stop work-life from blending into one?

Here’s what helps me:🐶 Taking the dog out🧺 Doing a quick household task🚪 Physically leaving the ā€œofficeā€ (even if that’s just shutting a laptop lid!)

Those little rituals create space between work brain and home brain.

šŸ‘‰ VA friends & remote workers—how do YOU switch off when the workday’s done?

After going to the Network Conference a few weeks ago, I decided my little business deserved a makeover. Cue… hours of overthinking colours, fonts, designs (and yes, I even roped my husband in for opinions šŸ˜…).

But… I’ve finally committed! šŸ™Œ Business cards are ordered, invoices updated, and I now officially have a logo. This weekend? A full rebrand on my socials. Feeling pretty excited about the fresh new look! šŸŽ‰

In between all that, I’ve been listening to the fab VA podcast ā€œShe’s Alright When You Get To Know Herā€ by Catherine Gladwyn. She’s hilarious, relatable and full of wisdom—and she reminded me I still have her books sitting on my shelf… so they’re next on my reading list! šŸ“š

Oh, and content. The dreaded content. A few weeks back I started scheduling my posts for LinkedIn & Facebook, and wow—it’s taken away SO much of the panic. No more ā€œwhat do I post today?ā€ spiral. āœļøāœ…

So tell me… are you more of a planner šŸ—‚ļø or a panicker šŸ˜… when it comes to your content?

(P.S. The bathroom is nearly finished, so this weekend also includes a little retail therapy šŸ›ļø. Balance, right?)

✨ How do you keep track of it all? ✨

Time management and productivity look different for everyone—but here’s a fun fact:
ā±ļø Did you know it takes an average of 23 minutes to refocus after a distraction?

That’s why the way we track tasks really matters.

Here’s what works for me:
šŸ“ At my desk: good old pen + paper (my ā€œThings To Do Todayā€ pad is my best friend—there’s nothing like the joy of ticking something off!)
šŸ“± On the go: notes app on my phone, perfect for capturing ideas before I forget.
šŸ“Š For projects: Trello is my go-to for keeping bigger tasks organised and on track.
šŸ›’ And yes… even food shopping—I write my list in the order of the aisles. Maximum efficiency, minimum faff!

šŸ‘‰ So I’m curious—what’s YOUR go-to? Are you old-school and love a handwritten list, or do you prefer high-tech tools?
