The Scottish Music Parade have just completed another fantastic tour over Germany the past week and are performing once again from December 10th - 22nd.

Where the Scottish Music Parade Began.

A cultural phenomenon that has now entertained hundreds of thousands across Europe had surprisingly humble beginnings. The Scottish Music Parade, now known for selling out theatres across Germany, first set foot on German soil in 2011. A moment that quietly marked the start of an international Scottish Culture showcase that would grow into one of Europe’s most popular touring Celtic productions.

From Scotland to Germany: The Birth of a Touring Tradition

In 2011, organisers brought together a cast of pipers, drummers, musicians and highland dancers with a simple mission: to bring an authentic taste of Scotland to European audiences. The idea was bold but beautiful, a full Scottish spectacle with castle style staging, roaring pipes, thunderous drums and traditional dance.

The early shows caught fire immediately. German audiences embraced the energy, emotion and heritage of the production, turning what was originally envisioned as a one-off tour into a recurring cultural event. Since then, the Parade has performed over 200 shows across Germany and beyond, becoming a key date in the European entertainment calendar.

The Man Behind the Pipes: Stevie Dewar.

At the heart of the Scottish Music Parade’s success is Stevie Dewar — a lifelong Scottish bagpiper and internationally recognised performer.

Dewar, who has spent decades refining his craft in pipe bands, global events, ceremonies and festivals, became the backbone of the touring show. He didn’t just play the pipes, he helped shape the creative direction, assemble the performers, maintain the musical standards, and lead the ensemble from Scotland to the European stage.

His guidance, musical expertise and leadership transformed the Parade from a touring idea into a polished, professional, crowd-filling production that German audiences return to year after year.

A Show That Brings Scotland Alive

Each performance blends:

Traditional Pipe Band music

Highland and Celtic Dance

Folk Style Ballads and contemporary arrangements.

With Full Stage Scottish visuals and atmosphere.

The result is a show often described by audiences as “goosebump-inducing,” “emotional,” and “unlike anything else on tour.” The Parade offers a cultural bridge, a showcase of real Scottish heritage, delivered with passion by performers flown directly from Scotland.

A Mystery Still Unsolved

While 2011 is officially recognised as the year the German touring tradition began, the exact first German venue or city has never been publicly documented. Early promotional material from that year is sparse, and no confirmed archive has yet identified the inaugural show. What is known, however, is that the strong early audience response swiftly turned the Parade into an annual fixture.

A Legacy Still Growing.

More than a decade later, the Scottish Music Parade continues to tour Germany, thrilling loyal fans and introducing new audiences to Scotland’s musical heart, and behind every note, every drumbeat and every tour schedule stands Stevie Dewar — the musician who helped guide the production from its 2011 debut to a European cultural powerhouse.

As the Parade enters its next chapter, its origins remain a blend of history and mystery. But one thing is certain: from the first blast of the pipes in 2011 to its hundreds of shows since, Stevie Dewar has been instrumental in bringing Scotland’s spirit to stages far from home.

An 82-year-old woman has died and two people were taken to hospital following a serious road accident in Aberdour on Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to Station Place at its junction with High Street at around 10am after reports that a car had struck a pedestrian before crashing into a building.

Police Scotland confirmed that an 82-year-old female pedestrian died at the scene. Her family has been informed. A second pedestrian, a 75-year-old woman, and the 81-year-old male driver of the vehicle were taken to hospital for treatment.

High Street remains closed as collision investigators examine the scene, and motorists are being urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

Sergeant Tom Aitken said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and I would ask anyone who was in the area and witnessed what happened to get in touch. Similarly, any drivers with dash-cam footage that may assist should contact us.”

Police can be contacted on 101 quoting incident number 0872 of 27 November.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said crews were alerted at 10.03am and three appliances were sent to the scene. “Three casualties were passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service. Crews left the scene around noon after ensuring the area was made safe,” they said.

The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed multiple resources were dispatched, including an ambulance, rapid response unit, trauma team, special operations team and an air ambulance. One patient was transported by road to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.

Local resident and Aberdour Community Council member Iain Fleming told the Press that the vehicle had crashed into the building beside the ATM at the former RBS branch. “There was a report that someone was using the ATM at the time,” he said.

He praised the rapid response from emergency services, adding: “The road is closed from Mill Farm Road to the end of High Street — you can’t walk along there either. The response from the emergency services was incredible.”

ExxonMobil has announced plans to close the Fife Ethylene Plant at Mossmorran in February 2026, ending more than 40 years of chemical production at the site.

The company said the decision follows high operating costs, market pressures, and an inability to keep the plant competitive. Efforts to find a buyer were unsuccessful.

Around 179 employees and an estimated 250 contractors are expected to be affected. ExxonMobil says around 50 staff may be offered transfers to its Fawley site in England. A consultation with workers will now begin.

Local representatives have described the news as a major blow to the Fife economy. Fife Council said the closure is “devastating,” while politicians across the region have called for urgent support for affected workers.

The Scottish Government is expected to form a response team to manage the economic impact and explore future options for the site. No replacement project for Mossmorran has been announced.

The plant is expected to fully cease operations in early 2026.
