A very autumnal looking day deserves a winter pudding. Jam sponge pudding and custard. If you cook the sponge pudding in the microwave it tastes and has the texture of a steamed sponge pudding but in a fraction of the time. And of course if has to be birds custard. A rare afternoon in the house all by myself. It was raining outside and looking quite autumnal . I had the sudden urge to make some Christmas cards. Strange but true! Here i am caught in action by the first person to disturb my peace! I enjoyed a lovely afternoon snipping, sticking, layering, glueing, stamping and generally creating.

A review of the books I read in Aug. Butter was a book group choice. It was a thriller but an interesting book regarding Japanese culture, food and the view on women. The rest of them were nice easy reads, mainly the next in the series. I am particularly enjoying the T.E. Kinsey Lady Hardcastle series which is set in 1910 about the sleuths Lady Hardcastle and her maid. In places they are LOL witty.

After riding a horse first thing this morning we went out for the day. I don't know about where you are but early mornings seem to enjoy the best of the days weather just recently. Today we went along the coast to Anstruther to partake in some famous fish and chips😋 Then we called into Kellie Castle and did the tourist things. The sun gods were looking after us whilst we were there as it didn't rain but from the puddles on the way home other places were not as lucky.
When we got home it was time to check the horses and on the way down from the stables we popped in to the poly tunnel. You leave the place for the day and mysterious goings on occurr! Where did this lot appear from 🤔🙃 Has anyone written the book 101 recipes for a cucumber or 2 or 3......🤣🤣

With my pancakes and yoghurt this morning I had raspberries and strawberries from the garden, plums from a friend and pears from thd garden that I preserved last year.
Originally I planted 2 pear trees, an eating one and a cooking one. The cooking and has a great crop every year but the eating ond is very poor. It has been poor all it's life with lots of stunted fruit although the rest of the tree looks healthy and the one next to it is great. I am no expert but wonder if it is something to do with pollination? Anyway I was at Dobbies and found an eating pear in their sale. I will see if this helps or if it doesn't I will chop the other one down . Meanwhile I will need to start preserving the crop i have.

The day started off early with blue skies and a walk up the hill with a horse. Next we tootled along the coast to meet friends for breakfast which i was ready for. Then we visited other friends who lived nearby for coffee and cake. After all that eating and socialising we headed home with the view of doing a few jobs but no sooner had we got home the heavens opened. Oh well, l I decided to spend the afternoon putting some of my hexi quilt together. Himself decided to have a go at making ravioli with a lamb filling. I didn't take any photos as it didn't look a pretty sight. However looks can be deceiving and it tasted delicious just needs further practice on the presentation skills. Every day is a school day ! Now we are about to watch the film ' The Thursday Murder Club' A good day in all😊

After a good training session this morning with one of the horses we arrived back home hungry and it was past our lunch time. But I was prepared! I love our leftovers. We had a pizza left over from our pizza making last night, we could have stuffed our faces at the time but much to himself's disgust i sneaked it away, planning ahead for today. The pizza with our sauce on and mozzarella was cooked last night then I heated it up in the airfryer and then added extra toppings, our home made rocket being one. At the same time I heated some courgette and potato soup and literally within 5 mins of entering the house lunch was on the table. Yes I am wearing my domestic goddess halo🤣🤣🤣

Runner beans and tomatoes for the freezer and winter meals. I have just been out to pick our tea. Carrots, French beans with some of our own potatoes and I have taken out some roast pork I froze the other week.
We still have raspberries and as a bonus strawberries. I bought some new strawberry plants in a sale last year for a new bed and I forgot they are autumn fruiting ones! We will be eating these for breakfast tomorrow with yoghurt and granola. Yum😋

As you probably know, if you have been around here for some time, I like to have a go at a variety of crafts. Some years ago I had a go at making Dorset buttons and even did a set for a cardigan I made. I have not done any since. Well since very recently. I saw an interesting club where you get a kit to make some buttons, the pattern etc being a mystery. This was my first kit where I have made 5 buttons, the kit was called geometric design where all the buttons are slightly different. The wool has a slight sparkle to it too. Can’t think yet how I am going to use them but I am sure they will be perfect for some project in the future🤔🤣 Roll on kit 2😊

Tonight he surpassed himself. He made prawn, tomato, spinach and garlic pasta. The pasta he made using our own eggs. The tomatoes, spinach etc were picked from the garden. The only bought ingredients were prawns and olive oil. Every little helps!

How quick were these knitted up! I think the reason is that , for a start, they are smaller but I think because mainly it is getting darker earlier and we have been binge watching ' The Last Kingdom ' We are on the last episode of season 2, still another 3 seasons to go though so plenty of knitting time🤣

A busy few days including spending a day in Edinburgh doing a couple of shows at the Edinburgh festival and having lunch with the newly engaged couple. One of the shows was to see my friend who is 82 doing a solo contemporary dance routine. She was absolutely brilliant, the show surprising, what an inspiration. I would say if you have the chance go but after 3 weeks of performing yesterday was the final night. Put my yoga efforts this morning to shame🤣🤣
In between I been harvesting and processing. That is another 12 bottles of wine laid down. This time elderflower and a batch of rhubarb started .Yes we seem to go through alot of wine.🤪
