📸Image of the Day📸
This lovely capture was taken by Graham Hazlegreaves. He had the below to say about it:
"The image is of a male Southern Hawker, which is a rare dragonfly in the Scottish Highlands. I am fortunate to live a couple of miles away from a pond on the local RSPB reserve; the pond is a haven for dragonfly and damselfly, so is a regular haunt of mine over the summer months.
Dragonflies are extremely agile frequently changing direction in flight, but they are creatures of habit. The individuals patrol the site and normally return to one spot where they hover for a few seconds. In order to catch this image I studied the flight of this dragonfly for to become familiar with its habits. This gave me a fighting chance of getting the insect in frame.
I used my Canon R5 paired with my RF 100-500mm lens; a superb combination. I was shooting at the maximum frame rate of the camera and managed to get several good images in the bag. I also had a huge number of shots of part of the insect or just the background...thank goodness I don't use film...
Overall, it is a case of knowing your subject and deal of luck."
Thanks so much for sharing with us all, Graham! ☺
