This new version places a significant emphasis on short-form video content, with the application opening directly to a curated Reels feed.

Key features of the update include a new "Following" tab, providing users with greater control over their content stream, including the option to view posts in chronological order. The redesigned interface facilitates seamless multitasking, allowing users to engage with comments on a Reel while the video continues to play at full size, or manage messages and notifications concurrently.

Platforms are changing how hashtags work. X has removed them from ads, LinkedIn is using them less for discovery, and Threads now only allows one topic tag per post. Instagram is even testing a five-hashtag limit to fight spam.

TikTok is getting in on the act, manually limiting the number of hashtags you can add to your videos. While TikTok hasn't officially said why, the move is aimed at improving the user experience by reducing clutter, fighting spam, and making content discovery more relevant. This means you’ll need to do more research to find the best, most relevant hashtags for your TikTok clips.

You can use the TikTok Trends dashboard to find popular and rising hashtags.

In a recent statement, Adam Mosseri explained that videos created using Meta's new "Edits" app receive a temporary boost in reach when shared on Instagram.

He clarified that this is a short-term strategy to help launch the app and not a permanent feature.

Mosseri also noted that they can detect when content is simply being passed through the app for a reach boost and that this behaviour won't be successful in the long run.

The reach boost is part of a larger ranking signal that aims to show users who might be interested in the Edits app more of the content created with it.
