"I was born with normal hearing, but it began to slowly decline when I was around 9 years old. Fast forward and I got my first implant 2017, at the age of 45 - the AB Naída Q70. Early 2023, I got my second implant and was upgraded to Marvel CI on both ears. I did not actively chose AB on purpose. In Sweden it is a bit different, but one of my brothers got an implant roughly 1 year before me and he was very satisfied with his Naída Q70. So I asked the surgeon if I could chose the same one. I never regretted that choice.

Having a has impacted me in an extremely positive way! I can talk in phone again, which wasn't possible at all the last years before my first implant. My "normal me" is back on track again, meaning that the normal extrovert Robert is back. :-) If it wasn't for my precious implants, I'd never got the chance to live and work abroad. I've lived in North Carolina since 2023. And most importantly; I can listen to music again, which I do a lot🥰

The pictures are showing me swimming with my AquaCase and running a race with my Waterproof Battery." -

When Sue’s hearing aids weren’t enough to allow her to live her most fulfilling life, she began to research the benefits of cochlear implants. After seeking multiple opinions, she decided to get Advanced Bionics cochlear implants, which came with a supportive team and the ability to use Remote Programming.

"When my daughter Alana was just 4 years old and about to get her first cochlear implant, there was one thing she was looking forward to most of all... to be able to hear in the water.
A little water baby from the start, she spent most of her swimming lessons underwater, tumbling around and earned the nickname 'the washing machine' from her teacher. However it was tricky learning to swim without her hearing aids.

One of the main reasons we chose Advanced Bionics was for design of their waterproof cases, which we believed would be really safe and secure for all her water activities. Little did we realise at the time that one day she would be competing regularly in Artistic (aka synchronised) swimming competitions which would involve her diving, hanging upside down in the water for extended periods, lifting her teammates in a tower of multiple bodies underwater and oh, having her hair covered in gelatin!

We are so glad we made the decision to go with AB! Her incredible AB cochlear implants and their waterproof cases take multiple trips to the swimming pool each week and give her so much joy in letting her hear her teammates and coaches, and perform in time to the music. They get attached to her bun for competitions, and her goggles for normal training sessions, and the coaches use an FM system so she can hear instructions clearly (well, when she’s above water!).

Last year, Alana was part of Cheltenham Artistic Swimming Club's 12 and under team who performed and came third at the National Combo Club, following their win the South West regional competition the month before. Later in the year she also came away from Plymouth with medals in both figures and duets.
None of this would be possible without her amazing "ears". We are so grateful to Advanced Bionics for making it all possible. 💙”

Thank you so much for sharing your story – what an inspiration Alana! 👏

"Santiago was diagnosed with severe bilateral when he was less than 1 year old. We decided as a family that we wanted to give him the opportunity to have a life full of sounds and verbal language.

We chose AB for our son’s life because it was the recommended brand by his surgeon. She had two options to offer us, but AB was, according to her, the best on customer service, technology functions and hearing quality. She was so right about all of that. Santiago has been a bilateral user since he was 2 years old. A few months ago he made an update to Marvel.

He is a happy boy and his cochlear implants are his magic ears. Our family is so blessed to have decided to do his surgery at a very young age. We love our magic ears!"

"I am a recipient of a for about three years now. It has saved my sanity. My was very gradual. Other people were aware of how bad it had become sometime before I surrendered. I kept thinking that somehow it would get better by itself. Magical thinking. I was afraid of losing what I did not have. The operation was simpler that I imagined, and after a few hours I went home. When my CI was switched on six weeks later I could not imagine how the sound I heard was going to turn into
words.

"Yet, it has! I was extraordinarily lucky in that my other ear still had some hearing. I never did as many of the exercises that I should have, but I also watched TV with the subtitles and things have improved. I need to think ahead, but I am much better than I was before the implant. I think there is little chance of really being able to hear in a loud room of people talking, but I make do. I am pleased. One thing I have recovered is the ability to hear some music which was not guaranteed when I elected to have the procedure done. Also, several years before I considered getting the implant, one person with whom I worked told me that she was
unable to hire me any longer because I couldn't hear. I had believed I was coping, I am happy with my choice of AB, and I am due for my first upgrade in a few weeks."

‘Bilateral AB cochlear implant wearer Ryan Carstairs has been awarded ‘Great Britain Deaf Swimming Club’s Andrew Rees Award’ for his volunteer work within the sport. Ryan recently joined the Ripple Effect project from UK Deaf Sport and has progressed to level 1 judge in training after completing the theory element. It adds to Ryan’s recent honour at the Sport and Recreation Alliance’s National Awards where he was awarded ‘Inspiration of the Year’ and his nomination as a finalist at the Swim England National Awards in November. He was presented with the award at GB Deaf Swimming Club's annual championships in April. Ryan said: “Wow, Wow! I was totally shocked to receive this prize. “As a CI user it is wonderful to be able to access the remote programming option. I live 200 miles away from my CI centre which usually means a full day away from family and work commitments, so now to be able to have the option to attend my tuning appointment online and from the comfort of home, work or anywhere with WiFi is just amazing! This option has given me even more support as I have the confidence to have a tuning session in real life situations and allow my family, friends and work colleagues the opportunity to see the world of a CI user and how incredible the technology and AB team are!” Charlotte
