I was reflecting on the Tulsa massacre during a walk on my lunch break and started thinking about the people who lost their lives. It was a truly horrific and cowardly act that should never be forgotten. In fact, there should be reparations for their descendants.
However, it seemed to me that in remembering the massacre, we were forgetting to celebrate their incredible lives.
These are people who built a successful prosperous community from nothing. They are an example to us all, particularly the black community that our circumstances don’t have to define us and we can rise above anything to change our lives – without help or charity from anyone.
I will be digging into this more over the coming weeks to understand their legacy and their lives more fully and will do a series or a video showcasing this.
I know there are TV shows/movies in the works to reflect this so I hope I can play a small part in bringing their lives not just their deaths to light.
