Emmanuel Shoon Patrick Expands Youth Empowerment Efforts Through Optoelectronics Business
By Raphael Atuu, Abuja
Managing Director of Excel Optoelectronics Company Limited, Ambassador Emmanuel Shoon Patrick, is using his business activities in the technology sector to create employment and skills-development opportunities for young Nigerians.
The entrepreneurβs youth-focused activities come amid continued concerns over unemployment and limited access to sustainable economic opportunities among young people in Nigeria.
Through Excel Optoelectronics Company Limited, Patrick has supported young Nigerians through employment opportunities, skills development and other forms of assistance intended to help beneficiaries acquire practical experience and become more economically independent.
His activities are centred on the optoelectronics sector, which combines optical and electronic technologies and has applications in areas such as communications, security, lighting and automation.
Speaking to journalists in his Office in Abuja today, Ambassador Shoon said youths like Martins, Chioma ,Robert and Israel benefited from the company through skills acquisition and training.
The sector has become increasingly relevant as technology continues to influence different aspects of economic activity, creating opportunities for businesses and young professionals with technical skills.
Patrickβs approach also highlights the potential role of private businesses in complementing government efforts to address youth unemployment. While public-sector programmes remain important, entrepreneurs and companies can contribute by creating jobs, providing practical training and supporting young people interested in entrepreneurship.
Ambassador Shoon said his youth empowerment have made some beneficiaries to receive opportunities to gain work experience, while others have benefited from support intended to enable them to establish or develop businesses.
The development comes at a time when stakeholders continue to call for stronger cooperation between government, businesses, financial institutions and development organisations to expand opportunities for Nigeriaβs growing youth population.
For businesses involved in youth development, however, access to finance, infrastructure, technology and an enabling regulatory environment remains important for expanding their reach and sustaining their interventions.
Patrick has maintained that economic development requires contributions from both the public and private sectors, with individuals and businesses having a role to play in creating opportunities and supporting productive activities.
His activities through Excel Optoelectronics Company Limited therefore place entrepreneurship, technology and youth empowerment at the centre of a broader conversation about private-sector participation in Nigeriaβs economic development.
As the country continues to grapple with unemployment and the need to equip young people with relevant skills, initiatives that combine business activity with employment and skills development could provide additional avenues for young Nigerians to participate in the economy.
