What does home mean to you?

Last month, we travelled to Anglesey to capture a very special art workshop for our client

Led by Mary Ainsworth - an artist who grew up in care - the workshop invited children in foster care alongside their foster families to create a piece of art about belonging.

The children’s answers were beautifully specific. Mountains, a pet dog, hobbies. The people and places that carry the feelings of home.

The artwork tells a powerful story: that for children in foster care, staying local matters. It means being close to the things, people and places they love.

The piece is on display at the in Anglesey this week. Pop by to say hello if you’re there, and find out more about fostering in Wales.

Back in 2022, approached after seeing her series of images, ‘East in Colour’ online.

They recognised the impact it was having through the representation of Wales and its community. They loved it so much, they asked to acquire a piece for their permanent collection and now, you can see Ashrah’s work exhibited at the National Museum in Cardiff!

East in Colour’ explores Ashrah’s Welsh Somali heritage through photography. It uses bold colour and composition to challenge perceptions and centre underrepresented voices. The series is a celebration and love letter to her community.

As well as being an incredible photographer, Ashrah is also our Senior Engagement Officer, using her instinctive skillset to get to the heart of how communities think, what they feel and how they deserve to be represented.

Here she is today, celebrating her work and rightly so.
