It feels right to start this story with my mum and dad - because they’re the ones who gave me the initials D.J.
Darren John Tipples.
What else could I have ended up doing? 😄
At 13, I decided I wanted to be a DJ. Mum and Dad backed me and sat through the noise, drove me to gigs, and helped me chase my dream. My brother was there too, driving me around when Dad had earned a break
Those early days were youth clubs in Cefn Hengoed, school discos, and parties - anywhere I could plug in a speaker and learn how to read a room.
My brother helped me build my first rig, and I spent every pound I earned on better gear, working after school at Zelma to afford it. I still have Alan Thomas’s reference letter, a great and loyal friend.
Once I passed my test, South Wales opened up. Weddings, parties, celebrations. Week by week, we built something that lasted. My family kept me grounded and taught me the importance of giving back, so I put on charity nights whenever I could.
From that first wedding at Craig Y Nos to now, the journey’s been incredible. But none of it would have been possible without my family - especially my wife. Being married to a DJ isn’t easy, but she’s the anchor that keeps it all in balance.
When I started out, Dad told me that service is the part people remember most. Three decades later, that’s still my compass.
DJ Sound has always been about creating moments people actually feel.
To my team: you make it possible.
To the venues and clients who bring us back: you keep us honest.
And to everyone planning what’s next, we’d be honoured to set the tone. 💡🎧
