MEET THE ARTIST: Jason Ziyad
Having raved since 1991 and lived through every mutation of the rave continuum from early breakbeat to the jungle and the explosions of the mid‑90s and 2000s - Jason Ziyad brings a perspective that’s rare in today’s scene. Their music carries the weight of history, the energy of the present, and the emotion of someone who’s never stopped loving the culture. We caught up for a question and answer about what makes him tick in the studio and what draws inspirations.
Q: How would you describe your style to someone new to DnB?
A: I’d tell them to start with the roots — learn where drum & bass came from and stay open to all its styles. As for me, my sound is energetic, shaped by being a raver since ’91 and living through every era from early breakbeat to jungle.
Q: What’s the most unexpected place you’ve found inspiration?
A: My inspiration comes from emotions more than places. Certain artists, memories, and feelings spark ideas — it’s never just one moment.
Q: Any happy accidents in the studio?
A: Loads. Some accidents were so good they turned one idea into two completely different tracks. Those moments keep the process exciting.
Q: What’s inspiring you outside the studio?
A: My girlfriend — the love of my life. She keeps me grounded, motivated, and constantly creative.
Q: One tune you’d DJ on repeat forever?
A: Shades of Rhythm – Sweet Sensation (Ray Keith Remix). A timeless rave classic that hits every emotion.
