In the heart of Wales lies a tragedy that forever changed a nation — a moment of unimaginable loss that remains etched into the collective memory of the country. The Aberfan Disaster stands as one of the darkest days in Welsh and British history.

On 21 October 1966, a catastrophic collapse of coal slurry swept through the village of Aberfan in Merthyr Tydfil, claiming 144 lives — including children who had just begun their school day. The scale of devastation and the silence that followed shook Wales to its core and left a wound that has never fully healed.

In this powerful and deeply moving graphic novel, Jack Lewis tells the story through the intimate lens of a single family whose lives were irrevocably changed. Drawing from his own family’s lived experience, he brings both personal truth and national memory into a profoundly human narrative of loss, love, and endurance.

As the 60th anniversary of the disaster is marked this year, this work stands as a solemn act of remembrance for a community, and a country, that will never forget.
