Howie is a young hippo finding his way in his new city. He’s been adopted by Hilda and now he wants to share the happiness he’s found with all of his new friends!

This collection of Howie shorts consists of 20 x 1 minute, comedy episodes aimed at children aged 3-5. The series was developed and produced by Jon Rennie and animated in Moho at Cloth Cat. Howie was originally conceived of and created by the talented Michelle Robinson (The Goodnight Series) and the marvellously imaginative Fred Blunt (Captain Falsebeard).

The scripts for Howie were crafted by the award winning writer/show creator Dave Ingham (Dave Spud, Shaun the Sheep). The music for Howie was composed and produced by Emmy award-winning composer Brollyman. The project was commissioned by S4C and supported by Creative Wales.

Howie is currently available to watch on the Cloth Cat YouTube Channel! The full series is also available to watch in Welsh on S4C’s Cyw YouTube Channel. Follow the link below to watch all of the episodes now!

Here’s a striking snapshot of the dramatic wolf chase in our animated short film, The Ghost of Midwinter. The scene was developed gradually through a series of careful, incremental decisions, from blocking out the movement, refining timing, adjusting weight, and layering in details like breath, snow, reflections and light.

What feels quick and instinctive on screen is actually the result of many iterations, tweaks, and reworks to get the motion reading clearly and the pacing feeling right. This shot was all about balancing clarity with energy, while keeping everything grounded in the environment.

The frosty winter background was created by our Head of Animation Development, Tom Lucas and the wolves were skilfully animated by Senior Animator Gregg Willis. If you’d like to watch our animated short film, the Welsh broadcast Ysbryd yr Oerfel is currently available to watch with English subtitles on BBC iPlayer!

Released in 2018, Shane the Chef is a CG animated preschool series, which Cloth Cat co-produced with Hoho Entertainment. The series follows the foody adventures of an energetic chef, Shane, and his young daughter Izzy as they run a restaurant in the town of Munchington. Shane is voiced by British actor Russell Tovey.

Fully animated in Maya and rendered in Redshift, the series was designed to mimic the warm style of stop motion animation. To complete the series, Cloth Cat developed a whole new pipeline and invested in GPU rendering to bring a high quality finish to the lighting and effects.

Full episodes are available to watch on Channel 5’s Milkshake! and on the Shane the Chef YouTube channel. Shane also has his own book, which is available to purchase via Amazon!
