It’s the final day of the

Morfydd Owen (or Morfydd ‘Llwyn’ Owen - her bardic name, as she is sometimes known) was born in Treforest in 1891 and continues to be one of Wales’ most influential composers.

She lived a short life, dying at only 26 years old but leaving behind over 150 compositions from classical to folk. During her lifetime she studied in Cardiff and London, rubbed shoulders with the creative and political elite, often wearing cutting edge fashion including the odd lampshade worn as a hat!

Morfydd remained deeply connected to Treforest throughout her life and her work was heavily influenced by a love for Wales and the Welsh language. You are invited to come and celebrate Morfydd’s remarkable life and work through the festival and to be inspired by her creativity and her character.

Whether you are passionate about music, are a young person with a big dream, perhaps you long for women’s work to be valued and championed equally or have been influenced by faith and religion, are you navigating being away from your loved ones? The list goes on. This is a festival for everyone, it’s a celebration of a forgotten daughter of Pontypridd and also a bright light of encouragement that we all have something unique to give to the world.

SUNDAY 12 OCTOBER
09:00 - 18:00 Lampshade Trail
10:00 - 12:00 Schools Showcase
10:00 - 16:00 USW Fashion Display
12:00 - 14:00 Arts & Crafts
12:00 - 14:00 Walking Tour
15:30 - 18:00 Gymanfa Ganu
18:30 - 21:00 An Evening With Amy Wadge

You can also complete the Lampshade Trail at Gwyl Morfydd Festival!

• Collect a trail worksheet from Pontypridd
Museum
• Then, visit the local shops and businesses taking part in the trail (they’ll be listed on the worksheet and will have a poster in their window). Inside each one, look for the lamp.
• When you find it, a member of staff will give you a sticker for your worksheet.
• Once you’ve collected all the stickers, return your completed worksheet to Pontypridd Museum to be entered into a prize draw!

As of right now there are two tickets for the show so you’ll need to be quick.

We’ll see you there.
