The River Taff appears to be rising quickly. Let’s hope the rain eases soon to allow it to go down.

Stay safe.

It’s your final chance to enter our competition which came about due to the incredible interest in our original story, and the reaction to this small pin.

When announced the launch of a special Aberfan pin badge - available exclusively at its Merthyr store for a full year, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Aberfan disaster, we had no idea that the story we ran would generate so much interest.

Within hours of us posting the story, the store had been inundated with visitors eager to purchase the pin. Within a day or two they had completely sold out.

The initiative has been created to mark the tragedy of 21st October 1966 and to raise funds for a local community cause in the lead up to the anniversary.
Priced at £10, all proceeds from sales of the Aberfan pin badge will be donated to the village’s Ynysowen Community Primary School.

The design of the pin is inspired by one of the most significant artefacts associated with the disaster: the clock that stopped at 9:13am - the exact moment coal spoil engulfed Pantglas Junior School and surrounding houses.

The still hands of that clock have come to symbolise the moment time stood still for the people of Aberfan. The pin reflects this powerful image, honouring both remembrance and the enduring strength of the community.

We purchased one of these pins and offer it as a competition prize, mainly because so many of you out of the Merthyr area are finding them hard to buy.

Our purchase has helped the village’s Ynysowen Community Primary School.

We hope it also helps maintains interest and encourages more of you to support the cause through the Clogau Merthyr Tydfil store.

And again.

We sent our team out to check some vulnerable flooding locations, and for the second time in as many weeks this poor property is suffering again.

The forecast is bad for the rest of the day.

Take care out there.

It seems it just clears and the wet stuff is back again.

Over 100 mm of rain could fall across exposed hills in Wales and western England by the end of Monday - around half of what would typically be expected to fall throughout the whole of December.

Flooding and disruption is expected so take care if travelling.

If you visiting the University Hospital Wales, Heath, there’s a FREE Park & Ride service for staff, patients and visitors attending the hospital.

Parking is always a challenge, so this may be an easier way to get there.

Park and Ride service runs directly from Pentwyn from 6:25am to 9pm.

If you’re able to use Park and Ride when visiting the hospital, you’ll be helping the Health Board’s commitment to improving air quality and promoting active travel.
