🚐 2025 on the road – what a year 🌍

18 countries. Over 13,000 miles. One van.

We travelled from the UK to Morocco, then crossed back into Europe via Sardinia and Italy, continuing through the Balkans and central Europe. From wild Atlantic coastlines to mountain passes, quiet wild camps to busy borders β€” and yes, a few van breakdowns along the way too πŸ˜…

This video is just a small selection of our highlights from the year, mixed with the reality of long-term vanlife when things don’t always go to plan.

If you enjoy campervan travel, long road trips, winter sun escapes, and honest vanlife, you might enjoy this one.

Happy New Year!
The last day of 2025 was spent productively, working with old and new friends in the campsite community that is growing.

Steve, Cuttlefish Creations, showed me how to make hooks from some fork handles he had left over from making earings with the tines.

Dave, London2Turin, had been showing us Fractal Burning, using electric current to make the most beautiful patterns.

I made these into van furniture, to hang Luna's lead and my helmets.

The day was rounded of perfectly, sharing a campfire with friends in the campsite, music and tales aplenty.

What an amazing year it has been. We hope you have had a good one too and are dreaming up more great stuff for 2026. We certainly are. Thanks for taking the time to follow along.

Enjoying some more settled weather.
We got the bikes out and went for a little wander along the coast. I had seen some caves on the map so off we went to find them.
Turns out they weren't as remote and undiscovered as we hoped, there was a walking group and some tourists from Essaouira along the track.
We easily found the cave and rock bridge, with a cafe conveniently perched on top. It was too tempting not to stop and enjoy the sun, the views and the sea crashing into the cliffs around.
Fed and watered we headed back to the campsite. A nice little outing.

Minds a bit blown!
We wandered down the litter strewn beach, just in view of the posh tourist side of town, before stumbling across a shanty town of artists. Small shacks built of found and salvaged materials, art pieces themselves, filled with paintings, mosaics and sculptures. Some were beautiful, some not so, the artists were happy for us to look, even if we weren't buying.
The atmosphere was gentle and friendly, the contrasts so sharp and more than a little challenging. Such poverty and squallor and yet out of it people had the drive and energy to create something beautiful.
We all felt quite humbled and challenged as we left, yet inspired and slightly in awe, how lucky we are, and how amazing that people live and create from nothing.
We were glad to get back to the lives we know, chill out a bit and process such an incredible place.

Essaouira, not the touristy side.
We headed back into town in search of the Sunday Market, which we had heard was a typical Moroccan trading spot. We weren't disappointed!
As stall holders set up and people wandered in the atmosphere grew, noises and smells, crowds formed, deals were struck, bigger traders were busy and others sat with their few goods hoping to make a single sale.
We pondered how someone could make a living with just a cart of oranges, but trade was brisk.
As we drifted away we found the old colonial buildings that formed the edge of town, still lived in, and then the beach. A little quiet was welcome after the bustle of the market, but we all struggled with the amount of trash on the beach and in the dunes. It is truly heartbreaking, but there isnt anything we can do as there is no infrastructure (tips) other than an occasional smouldering heap on the edge of town. All within site of the 'posh' developed part of town.
We wandered on and found an even more mind bending area, for another post!

Still raining in Morocco!
Not what we were expecting. But making the best of it. Walks are more around town which is sheltered and endlessly interesting, a lovely local hammam feels great.
Essaouira is only 20 minutes by taxi, so a good distraction when we need to get out.
Forecast is variable and constantly changing, hopefully looking better tho.

Happy Christmas from Mick, Sarah and Luna.
Christmas on the beach is always special, shared with friends makes it even better.
Great atmosphere in Sidi Kaouki today, such a great community on the road. Sharing time, tales and meals with each other.
It has been a lovely day indeed.

This was meant to be a relaxed drive down the Moroccan coast… but it turned into one of our most intense vanlife weeks yet πŸ‡²πŸ‡¦πŸš

Van breakdown in Oualidia, a speeding ticket leaving town, then beach drama in Sidi Kaouki when our friend’s dog was attacked and we had to urgently find a vet due to rabies risk.

Not all stress though β€” we still squeezed in a bike ride to a waterfall and a wander around the Essaouira souk.

Real vanlife, highs and lows.

We had a fabulous chilled beach day.
A wander and some rock pooling. Catching up with friends in camp, then waving Hanna off and settling little Charlie in. Luna seems happy to have a friend on board and is only a little jealous!

We took a shared taxi into Essouira.
Not looking for anything in particular, just to soak up the atmosphere and see what the traders offered. The produce looked so fresh, the variety and volume always amazes me.
The atmosphere was good, friendly but not pushy. And no Christmas stuff, it is a Muslim country, but not even in the touristy areas.
The alleyways ant narrow streets led us inevitably to the ramparts, the sea crashing huge waves onto the rocks. Very atmospheric, such power. Quite mesmerising.
A fun outing.

Water is life in the desert.
We left Luna with friends and went for a bit of an explore on the bikes.
We had seen there was a gorge with a waterfall occasionally forming, so after all the rains it was worth a look. The contrast between areas with water and drier places is always so dramatic here.
We crossed a few fields and soon found a stream, initially in a gully, and followed along as it deepened. The waterfall wasn't hard to find, we heard it first and soon scrambled down to the base. Again the rock formations were incredible. We wandered through and popped out onto a little beach.
Life was abundant along the stream, lots of small birds, we saw a peregrine, butterflies on flowers and grasses popping up.
Riding back we saw camels grazing in the scrub, donkeys working, goats and sheep browsing and even a tortoise. A great ride.
Luna was happy to see us on return and we had a nice play on the beach.
