Another round done and dusted, Croft really didn’t disappoint!
Before I go into my 5 thoughts just wanted to cover off penalties as we recorded the review before all penalties were out 🧑⚖️
Race 1: - DeLeon was given a 60sec penalty for not having tyres fitted on time. This was added to his race time, Rainford was given a one place grid drop for contact with Moffat and gaining an unfair advantage
Race 2:- Lloyd received a written reprimand for the incident with Cook, Cammish received the same for his contact with Ingram
Race 3:- Cammish received a further written reprimand for contact with Collard (slightly surprised with this one and we had a different opinion when discussing), Smiley got a 5second pen for an overboost infringement
Right then. The talking points
1. Track Limits. This seems to have caused a lot of anger and frustration this weekend and I understand that perhaps the infrastructure at Croft isn’t the same as some of the other tracks we visit, however all drivers know or will be told what the limits are for that weekend. In my opinion it is up to the drivers to keep the car in the limits, yes, I know this is a LOT easier said than done but several drivers were repeatedly penalised whilst others weren’t at all. To me this shows that keeping it in the limits was completely possible. Drivers have no one to blame but themselves, thoughts? Too harsh? 🤔
2. Driving Standards. Obviously as fans we LOVE to see action and ‘old school’ style overtaking. However it was disappointing to see so many incidents of ‘silly’ or ‘overly ambitious’ moves this weekend. Yeah to a degree it’s all part of Motorsport but it’s also hard not to feel sorry for drivers being punted off despite doing little wrong. 💥
3. Gilbert bounces back. Hats off to Gilbert, as a young driver coming off the back of a massive crash he showed real courage stepping back into the car this weekend and was rewarded with 3 points finishes, the overall Jack Sears Trophy and generally kept his nose clean in tricky conditions and despite racing in the pack. Really good performance by the Scot! 🏴
4. Toyota. I just cannot work them out 😅Honestly I expected them to struggle this weekend. And they did not. They scored 2 podiums, Bensley got his first points and best BTCC finish, Cook won a race, was going pretty well on the Hard until he was punted and then recovered really well in race 3, Shedden was steady all weekend and got yet another podium, less said about Taylor-Smith the better, not his day at all. Seems the cars are improving as the season goes on, be interesting to see how they go at the final two rounds! 🏁
5. Championships. It’s a real shame that with two rounds to go we only have one championship just about alive in the Independents. Sutton has been phenomenal this season, any chance he’s been given he’s taken, he’s won 2 races on the ‘wrong’ tyre, been so consistent and shown time and again why he is one of the greatest of all time. No complaints, appreciate him whilst he is here - BUT it does mean the championship is done with 2 to go
Same over in the Jack Sears. It’s such a
Shame that we lost Dorlin as he was the only challenger to Patterson. That said it’s been a real breakout season for Patterson and like Sutton he isn’t responsible for how others score points
It’s just a pity we only have one title left on the line and that one is close over too 🏆
Maybe we need to make some changes?…
Right. That’s that. Long post so thanks for reading! 📖
