Love riding the K. It is absolutely at home on the autobahn. But seriously shows its spirit in the twisties. Some proper ones tomorrow.

Day 3 Germany tour. Staying local to Soest. Out to Möhne where Dambusters did the bouncing bomb. Then nice loop round. Not many miles. Rest day really. Tomorrow off further south down to Nurburgring area. That will then be base for day rides out and round.

Day 1 of German tour to Hull and overnight ferry to Rotterdam. Just approaching Humber bridge and the heavens opened. For those at the back it turned to hail. I was lucky. Then sun again. Scott waterproofs did their job.

Day 2 off ferry and currently heading down to hotel west of Dortmund. Coffee stop planned now and another easy hour or so to hotel.

So, Day one of the Germany trip. Leaving Swains Centre around mid day for a ride up to Hull. A number of coffee stops planned and should be a good “getting to know everyone” ride. Ten of us going.

Overnight ferry and riding through Germany by 10 in the morning. Looking forward to a 10 day tour.

Someone recently said I’ve “only been riding for 7 years.” Truth is, it’s just over 6. But here’s the thing—experience isn’t measured in years, it’s measured in miles.

Across four BMWs I’ve clocked 85,000+ miles. On the F800 I passed my IAM, on the RT I became an Observer, on the GSA I achieved my Masters (and decided to retire and launch HighPeakBiker training), and the K1600 will take me on my first European tour.

Every motorway slog, every rainy ride, every tight Peak District lane—that’s where the learning comes from.

AND it is how you ride those miles. Thinking bikers analyse and reflect and learn from the ride. IAM RoadSmart is a fantastic organisation to be involved in and take your riding to a different level.

So don’t count the years. Count the miles and how you use them.

Experience is Measured in Miles, Not Years Recently, someone commented that I’d “only been riding for seven years.” For the record, it’s just over six. But whether it’s six, seven, or sixty doesn’t…
