Official launch!
I am officially launching the books in the community scheme. I am looking for businesses and individuals, who would like to make a small regular donation on a monthly basis. I am basing this around the Chatham UK group that can be found at https://www.facebook.com/groups/200502026258464
Usually sponsorship comes in at between £50-£500 but I am looking for just £10 a month (or more, the more we can get, the more we can help).
All money raised will go to putting books into the community.
I already have a group where we run book hunts all across Medway and have put thousands of books out there in the past 2 years. You can see more here https://www.facebook.com/groups/439097358441444
Your sponsorship will go towards books for:
Book hunts, hospitals, nurseries, care homes and all other places where we can put books into places where they are most needed.
In return, your business details will go:
Into the books themselves
Onto our main pages
Into the pages of the groups who we are supporting
In addition, my company www.facebook.com/conexustuitionmedway will donate 10% of everything that we raise.
The reason I am so passionate about this is reading, quite literally, saves lives. Consider these statistics...
6.5% of children aged 8-18 say they don’t own a book at home. This equates to half a million children.
This rises to 10% of children who are on free school meals.
20% of children say they never read.
70% of children who are excluded from school have poor literacy skills.
22.3% of children have fewer than 10 books at home. This rises to 32.1% of children on free school meals.
39.7% of children with fewer than 10 books at home read for pleasure.
71.3% of children who have more than 10 books at home read for pleasure, a difference of more than 31%.
16.4% of adults have poor literacy skills. That is 7.1 million people.
60% of the prison population have poor literacy skills.
