Female founders… let’s talk about buying property for a sec. 👀

Because if you’ve ever felt confused, underprepared or like the system wasn’t really built with you in mind - you’re not wrong. Traditional mortgages were designed around predictable salaries… not the beautifully chaotic, entrepreneurial income most of us live with.

In her latest article for High Flying Design, Michelle Niziol shares the kind of knowledge I wish every founder had access to:

✨ how lenders actually look at our income
✨ why fluctuating earnings aren’t a red flag
✨ buying solo (yes, you absolutely can)
✨ business vs personal ownership
✨ getting financially ready - without the panic
✨ and the emotional side nobody talks about

If you’re a founder who’s ever thought, “Is this harder for me… or am I imagining it?”

This is your sign that you’re not imagining it - but you’re also not at a disadvantage.

You just need advice tailored to how you run your business.

Natalie & Ben of Blatella Films didn’t get an “industry in."

They graduated into a recession, borrowed gear, bought a second-hand camera… and started a film company from a spare room in Southend.

Fifteen years later, their work has won 25+ international awards - and their next documentary is reclaiming the “Essex Girl” narrative through the voices of the women reshaping it.

Their story is a reminder that you don’t need funding, connections or a roadmap to build something meaningful.

Sometimes you just need the guts to start where you are.

Southend filmmaker Natalie Scarsbrook and her husband Ben built Blatella Films from a spare room into an award-winning documentary studio. In this interview, Natalie shares how she’s challenging the ‘Essex Girl’ stereotype and paving a path for women in film.
