β˜•οΈ 🍰 Plans to close four country park cafes have been abandoned.

Facilities at Great Notley, Weald, Belhus Woods in South Ockendon and Cudmore Grove in East Mersea were at risk of being shut.

Conservative-run Essex County Council reconsidered the plan after assessing the community value of the cafes and potential savings.

Michelle Giddons, who started a petition against any closures, said: "They've listened to us; how amazing is that?"

Grieving families laid out shoes in Chelmsford city centre as a reminder of the increasing number of road deaths.

Fifty-one people died on Essex's roads in 2024 and police say 57 people have already been killed this year.

Campaigners laid out 51 pairs of shoes on Monday as part of the Safer Essex Road Partnership's (SERP) attempts to eliminate all road deaths in the county by 2040.

London Travelwatch estimated thousands of people each year used contactless barriers at stations in the capital but were then fined up to Β£100 at Stansted for not having a ticket.

BBC presenter Sadie Nine went to Ypres in Belgium to find her great uncle's name on the Menin Gate, who was an "unclaimed" soldier.

Robert Palmer died somewhere on the Western Front in France/Belgium during World War One, although Sadie's family does not know exactly when he died, or his age.
