Hello pod friends 👋🏻 long time no see!!

We are dropping in with a new episode featuring Trumpet soloist and principal with - the magnificent Imogen Whitehead ✨

This episode spans 6 jam packed months for Imogen as she released her debut album Connection, put on a launch concert at performed various solo, chamber & orchestral dates aaaaand prepares for the arrival of 👶🏼 💕

It was brilliant to chat to Imogen…and great to catch up last week so we could get answers to various questions from pt. 1 including: how did the launch go? Has she found anyone to help manage her (*terrifyingly) busy schedule? How’s the album doing?

Oh…and what was that Helena Bonham-Carter anecdote?!? 🤔
See picture no.2 featuring Imogen & Tom Hiddleston for a not wildly helpful clue!

New Episode alert!! 🚨 Yep, another one in mere days!

We were lucky enough to chat to the new Artistic Director of Cheltenham Music Festival, Jack Bazalgette 🤩

He is in the midst of his first - and hugely successful year at where he has brought his brilliant and visionary approach whilst retaining its core values.

We’ve been lucky enough to chat to Cheltenham artists (performing TODAY 🎉) and and Jack has attracted a multitude of great performers for this year’s festival.

We discuss festival highlights, how to attract new audiences whilst staying faithful to your established festival goers and some of the incredible concerts in weird and wonderful venues Jack has curated whilst wearing his other hat as cofounder and director of 😎

We loved chatting to Jack who is a brilliant person and a true visionary…if you are in the Cheltenham area over the next few days get along to the festival before it’s too late!

Thanks to Dan Hartland for setting up this chat - here’s hoping we’ll make it to the festival next year 🤞

ORDEEEER! 👩🏼‍⚖️

We’ve got a brand new episode out right now with the utterly wonderful Baroness Thangam Debbonaire.

Fresh from her excellent maiden speech in the House of Lords making ‘a political case for the arts’ we chat to Thangam about
her own musical education (she was a student at Chethams and worked as a professional cellist before moving into politics 🤩🎻)

The impact of AI on the arts and how to harness the positive elements.

Curating the perfect running playlist 🏃🏻‍♀️

The underrated benefits of joy 🤩

And one heck of a lot more!! It was an absolute privilege to chat with Thangam who is a refreshingly positive and vocal campaigner for the arts within politics. Take a listen, we hope it makes you feel as buoyant as it did us!

Your eyes do not deceive you 👀 it’s 2 eps in 2 days 🤯🎉

We wanted to whip this special episode with trumpeter out immediately cos he’s got a HUGE gig out this Friday with his group at 🤩 If you move darned quick you might just pick up one of the remaining tix for Acid Brass where acid house meets full brass band - we’re thinking a Hacienda/Black D**e mash up!

We chatted to Jack about collaborating with (who’s brain child this was back in the 90s), some strong sartorial choices, bringing this show into the ‘20s and a whole lot more!

Have a listen, get yer neon on and get down this Friday (ticket link in our show notes)

NEW NEW NEW! 🌟

This week’s episode features trumpet sensation Aaron Akugbo 🎺💕✨

Not only is Aaron an incredible musician but he’s a brilliant, funny and engaging guy! We loved chatting to him about a whole bunch of stuff including tactical programming, keeping in shape on tour, inadvertently finding himself as a finalist in competition with some extreme yet minimal preparation 😱.

Aaron also airs his scepticism of the international date line 🤔🤣 and his move from Edinburgh to London at the tender age of 17…

BTW Aaron is performing at the Cheltenham Festival on 11 July - it’s going to be a belter of a concert and we’ve stuck a ticket link@in our show notes 😎

Sound the national treasure klaxon! 🚨

We’ve had the huge honour of chatting to internationally celebrated mezzo soprano Dame Sarah Connolly ✨

Dame Sarah is performing Brahms’ Alto Rhapsody at on 5 July and we are very grateful to Dan Hartland @ Cheltenham Festival for setting up our meeting!

With such a glittering career, Dame Sarah is warm, funny and down-to-earth and this chat was such a pleasure…conversation includes auditioning, evolving different roles and songs, controlling performance anxiety, how to avoid being pigeonholed, wearing a fatsuit and the singers’ nemesis - the common cold 😱

Want a bit more in yer ears?! Of course you do 🤩

Our ‘Petit Trois’ bonus bit featuring viola player and utter legend James Flannery is OUT NOW!

Find out who his ideal co-pilot would be, what went on a questionable tour to the Netherlands and who’s in his ideal viola section (spoiler alert, it’s going to be a viola heavy orchestra 🤣)

NEW EPISODE 🎉🎻✈️

This week’s guest is viola player, Negroni specialist and wannabe pilot James Flannery

You may recognize his dulcet tones from guest hosting our Ivor Novello Awards episode - so traumatic an experience this was for James we felt it only right to rectify things by bringing him back for a proper ep with some fully functioning tech and less shouting!

✅Worzel Gummidge.
✅Easy Jet.
✅Gig on a runway.
✅Dubious tours.
✅Problems at security.

Bonkers and brilliant - we love James and this is an excellent listen 🤣
