Natasha Caruana is a London-based artist working across photography, moving image and installation. Caruana has an MA in Photography from the Royal College of Art, London. Her work begins autobiographically, exploring narratives of love, betrayal and fantasy, underpinned by a performative and playful approach. Her work is created drawing from archives, the Internet and personal accounts. The series Married Man breaks with traditional portrayals of infidelity, whilst later works grapple with the institution of marriage - its promise and defeat. She is a Senior Lecturer of Photography at the University of the Arts London.

STUDENT TAKEOVER DAY SIX/SEVEN .by.bel - Yesterday I went to Porthcawl to work on my Final Major Project (photo one).

My project focuses on the British seaside in the “off season” and how people still feel the desire to flock to the coast even when it’s not all that warm.

The rest of the photos are some of my favourites from the project so far.

STUDENT TAKEOVER DAY FOUR - .by.bel - This afternoon I shot the University’s Netball squad varsity photos. The squad isn’t announced yet so I can’t post the photos, so instead I share some previous headshot work I’ve done for other university teams.

STUDENT TAKEOVER DAY THREE - .by.bel

This evening I was part of a team editing European football for Getty Images, captioning live photographs sent from Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad and England vs Spain amongst other matches.

Doing this part time job alongside the course has given me a great insight into the sports photography industry.

STUDENT TAKEOVER .by.bel, Yesterday I shadowed Getty Images’ Netball Super League Official headshots with Staff Photographers Alex Pantling and Dan Mullan.

It was fantastic to witness industry professionals in action and gain a better understanding of the photographic process and lighting set ups.

I got to have a go at directing and shooting a few of the subjects for the ‘celebration’ headshots, helping build my communication and portraiture skills.
