To be honest, having a city break in Gloucester wasn’t top of my list (I’ve lived in and around the city for over 20 years)!

But I was really keen to try out the city’s new hotel  in The Forum and the rooftop bar  so jumped when I got the invite (both were wonderful, FYI).

Even better, thanks to booking a history tour with Becki Lewis-Rusher I became a tourist for 24hrs, not a resident - the upshot being that I discovered so many new things about the city and really felt like I’d had a mini-break on my own doorstep.

Did you know, for instance, Gloucester was home to the miserly man that inspired Scrooge? His name was James ‘Jemmy’ Wood and his home was on Westgate Street. Sadly, it’s now McDonald’s!

This is where to go in Gloucester for sunshine highs and a cocktail or two: the lovely rooftop bar .

You’ll find Crimson Spire Rooftop Bar at in The Forum. It’s only been open a few months so it’s not on everyone’s radar just yet. Which means you can enjoy it without having to elbow your way to the bar. Bonus.

Take the elevator from the hotel lobby to the fifth floor and voila: gorgeous views, a laid-back city vibe, friendly staff and a nice selection of a cocktails.

We spent a sunny Saturday afternoon drinking up the atmosphere, soaking in the rooftop vista toward Gloucester Cathedral before getting our kicks with table football. I may have lost, but - I was playing with a cocktail in hand so…

If you need a weekend away AND you’re a history nerd, a stay at is a must! So much fun, brilliant food, haunted rooms, costumes and general royal hoopla! Loved every moment! It’s not far from Bristol so easy to get to down or up the motorway or via train.

So, there we were walking along the South West Coast Path in beautiful Cornwall, when we came across this incredible hidden cove.

It’s just next door to the amusingly named Polly Joke or Porth Joke beach, nestled between Crantock and Hollywell on the north Cornish coast.

This peaceful, secluded cove is a favourite sun-bathing spot for the local wildlife, as you can see. Can you spot the seal playing in the water?

Apparently, there have been reports of more than 60 seals on the beach at one time; and the headland gives you brilliant views to watch the seals without disturbing them.

To find the cove, it’s about a 10-minute walk from the nearest car park at West Pentire. Maybe one to save for your next Cornwall trip?

All this BEAUTIFUL weather just makes me want to run away to the sea and live in a beach hut! 🌊 ⛱️☀️

I stayed in a fabulous beach hut a couple of years ago: Beachcroft Beach Hut Suites on Felpham beach in West Sussex. And I’m pretty envious of anyone who’s staying there this week! Have you ever stayed in one?

There are 4 huts to choose from (Pebble, Sand, Stone and Shell). We stayed in Pebble, which was gorgeous inside and came with an enviable beach-side location.
