11 years ago today, my fur wrapped soulmate was born.

I was 26 when this four-legged sass-pot tippy tapped into my life, and a world away from the person I am today. She has snuggled me through the growing pains, never judged me for any of my terrible decisions & been an invariable constant of unconditional love.

The list of love and loss, trauma and triumph is longer than this caption will allow, but she has been there through it all. She has brought light to the darkest of days & always reminds me that Iโ€™ve never been alone on this journey. Before she waddled into my life, I never knew the depth of love & connection that could exist between a human and their dog, and now I donโ€™t know how Iโ€™d ever live without her.

My Poochie Wally Wally Bing Bang B**g (aka Penelope), youโ€™re spoilt, demanding, stubborn & bossy but when I say I would go to war for you, I say it with my chest & wouldnโ€™t hesitate. The bond we share is unbreakable, and I feel so incredibly blessed to be your mum. Thank you for helping me navigate the highs and lows of this boxset we call life, my love for you knows no bounds ๐Ÿพ

This weekend an elderly lady ๐Ÿ‘ต๐Ÿป repeatedly ๐ซ๐ž๐ฃ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ž๐ my offer of an oversized coat to warm her up because ๐ฌ๐ก๐ž ๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐ฎ๐ ๐ก๐ญ ๐ฌ๐ก๐žโ€™๐ ๐ฅ๐จ๐จ๐ค ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฒโ€ฆsheโ€™d rather ๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ in the bitter winds ๐Ÿฅถ than subject herself to the ๐จ๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ of others. Thankfully, I convinced her to wear the coat ๐Ÿงฅ but it ๐ก๐š๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ž๐ซ๐ž๐ ๐ก๐จ๐ฆ๐ž that we all waste too much ๐ฉ๐ซ๐ž๐œ๐ข๐จ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐ž๐ง๐ž๐ซ๐ ๐ฒ worrying about what others think ๐Ÿง

Itโ€™s time to accept that people will ๐€๐‹๐–๐€๐˜๐’ have an opinion but their thoughts and judgements are ๐ง๐จ๐ญ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ until you allow them to beโ€ผ๏ธ

As we approach Penelopeโ€™s ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐ญ๐ก ๐›๐ข๐ซ๐ญ๐ก๐๐š๐ฒ I canโ€™t help but look back and remember that 12 hours after this photo was taken my beautiful baby girl was rushed into intensive care and we were advised on two separate occasions that she might not make it. Being separated broke my heart but with the nurses help I sang her the song Iโ€™ve sang to her every single day since she was 8 weeks old, down the phone before I went to bed.

My ๐๐จ๐จ๐œ๐ก๐ข๐ž princess spent what felt like forever in the specialist neurology hospital, but In true Penelope style she ignored the experts, defied the odds and ๐–๐€๐‹๐Š๐„๐ƒ out of the hospital 3 weeks later.

This was 8 years ago. I didnโ€™t give up on her when others told me I should and sheโ€™s ๐ง๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ given up on me.

I donโ€™t think many people will ever understand the bond I have with my girls. Theyโ€™re not ๐‹๐ˆ๐Š๐„ family, they ๐€๐‘๐„ most consistent family Iโ€™ve ever had. Iโ€™m not just โ€˜obsessed with my dogsโ€™, theyโ€™re my ๐ฌ๐จ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ฌ. In a world full of people Iโ€™d choose them every time.

I was given this canvas as a gift for Christmas 2016, by the most special of people to ever grace the planet. Robert is no longer with us, he left this world at just 25 years old and this was the last gift I ever received from him. It remains the best present Iโ€™ve ever received. Penelope looks so proud of her picture ๐Ÿ˜‚ I canโ€™t believe she was only 2 thereโ€ฆand this year we celebrate 10 years of the baby that made me a mummy!
